Because it was morally gray event? Like Khadgar and Modera basically only allows Aethas back into Dalaran after he bribes them with access to a Sunstrider relic. So even they dont think Aethas was blameless for the whole event.
I was referring to Jaina killing all those elves
not Aethas.
Dalaran was a nice enough city. I liked that it had a cafe and art gallery. Would definitely be my pick for a place to go on a first date in Azeroth.
But them being the authority on all magic to which all mage PCs have presumed membership (you start out friendly with them iirc), while being not just Alliance leaning but so human dominated kinda made things dull. Like damn can’t even get a Gnome on the Council of Six but we get Kalecgos. No wonder the Manahouse couple broke bad, that’s some nepobaby ish if I’ve ever seen it.
That’s where I was going with that. Like, even if we limited it to the Alliance’s races, and accepted that the five would always orbit the one, the Council of Six’s filler could’ve had so much more going on. How about a cowled Thalassian who insisted they were high but sounded suspiciously British and reverb, or a wizened gnome archmage who was played in rare seriousness? As little as interesting silhouettes would’ve raised investment in these C-list characters.
You will love Arcantina. But It’s not Dalaran ![]()
One of them was Xal in disguise.
But if Khadgar gets out of the wheelchair, how will they virtue-signal about people in wheelchairs? (Apparently Anduin left the job half-done when he used the Light to heal Khadgar, and funny how they couldn’t even give his chair a cool Dalaran floating crystal design since it clearly doesn’t need those wheels).
Disabled people existing is virtue signaling now.
I don’t know if you would call it virtue signaling but Paizo made made a Free RPG day Pathfinder module that fetured pregenerated 10trh level dragonblooded characters. One of them was a cleric in a wheel chair and the r ulebooks now include wheelchairs designed for adventuring.
There are plenty of options for magical centres. I’d personally like to see a rebuilt Dire Maul, with custody shared by the Highborne and a clan of Ogre mages.
Thematically it should be a Horde mage center… its right by a Tauren settlement and cannonically the Highborne abandoned it after being rescued and taken in Darnassus, where the vast majority of them had the decency to get themselves slaughtered in the ‘War of Thorns.
The Alliance have a proper mage hub in Stormwind. They have an entire district of the city with TWO pubs. One of them however is a bit on the sketchy side… for those sketchy caster.
I wouldn’t call a singular tower primarily used as a portal depot and is surrounded by a public park where an old man shows kids a “Mage hub”.
Silvermoon’s college as well as Quel’Danas are far more of an actual mage hub than either Stormwind and Orgrimmar, and to some extent surpassed Dalaran as well. Especially considering Dalaran was always a “half-city” at best and was very restrictive with what I think the developers wished they could do with it.
As far as a there being a desire for a brand new mage hub I don’t think Blizzard knows where said hub would be located at. Kharazon is an interesting choice and could be a cool one, but if anything I think TLT will introduce a Dalaran 2.0 despite that being a very poor idea in my eyes
Not in playability terms. From a player relevance standpoint, I’d say it and the Stormwind mage tower are about equal.
I think Stormwind is often underestimated because players only experience a very small portion of it in-game.
The “Mage Tower” in the Mage Quarter is not merely a simple tower. According to the lore, it houses the Academy of Arcane Arts and Sciences, the premier institution for mages within the Kingdom of Stormwind.
It is far more of an academic institution than simply a portal chamber. The Academy also includes its own library, located on the northern side of the Mage Quarter.
There is also a clear educational progression implied by the game itself: Northshire introduces aspiring mages, while the Academy of Arcane Arts and Sciences represents the highest level of arcane education within the Kingdom of Stormwind.
It is also worth mentioning that the Academy was previously featured in the old Warcraft RPG. For a long time, the Stormwind Academy was said to be considered the second-best compared to Dalaran. Following Dalaran’s destruction, many mages from the north fled to Stormwind and settled at the Academy.
Although this content is no longer considered canon, it demonstrates that officially licensed material has long portrayed the Academy as far more than a mere portal hub.

I also think it’s worth remembering that the Horde has several highly accomplished magical traditions that go far beyond the elves.
Long before the rise of Quel’Thalas, the trolls of the Amani Empire were already renowned for their weapon enchantments. According to the lore, the high elves were unable to match the trolls’ enchantments until they stole ancient magical knowledge from troll spellcasters, including the famous Zanza, and adapted those techniques for themselves during the Troll Wars.
Later, during the Great Sundering, the Zandalari also demonstrated extraordinary magical capability by weaving powerful spells that preserved much of their homeland while the rest of the world was being torn apart. Afterward, they simply continued rebuilding and pursuing their magical studies.
Because of that, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to imagine Orgrimmar or especially Zuldazar eventually receiving a major magical institution similar to Stormwind’s Academy of Arcane Arts and Sciences. The Horde already possesses centuries of magical scholarship through its troll civilizations alone.
That’s nice and all, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter if the lore “says” anything. If the game doesn’t show it than it doesn’t exist within the context of the average players viewpoint/knowledge base.
I’m sure that any future Stormwind revamps will include some of what the lore claims/states exists, but until then than the Stormwind Mage Tower is just a teleportation hub.
It’s similar to how Dalaran was claimed to be some kind of grandiose magical city of mages that was floating in the sky, but all the game had to show for it was a handful of vendor shops and 3 different taverns/inns.
Midnight-era Silvermoon and Quel’danas is the first time we’ve ever really seen what a magic university and magic research lab/library are meant to look like within the Warcraft Universe and hopefully Blizzard is able to something similar to any future capital city updates.
However, with us heading to Northrend in TLT I doubt we’ll be seeing a proper “mage quarters” in Stormwind within the next 4 years or perhaps even longer longer.
The game actually does show Stormwind’s magical institution, especially if you play through the human starting experience.
For example, north of the Mage Quarter you can enter the library associated with the Academy of Arcane Arts and Sciences and meet Mazen Mac’Nadir, who is explicitly identified as a member of the Academy.
The Mage Tower is also home to some of Stormwind’s most prominent mages. High Sorcerer Andromath is described as one of the most powerful mages outside Dalaran:
https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/High_Sorcerer_Andromath_(quest)
Maginor Dumas is referred to as one of Stormwind’s foremost mages:
https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Frazzle's_Request
Both Dumas and Andromath are also the mages who teleport Marshal Hammond Clay (formerly Marshal Marcus Jonathan) to Hogger Hill after Hogger’s defeat so the gnoll can be taken to the Stockades:
https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/WANTED:_"Hogger"
So Stormwind isn’t portrayed as lacking an established arcane tradition. It has a long-standing magical institution, prominent resident mages, an Academy of Arcane Arts and Sciences, and the Sanctum operating within the Mage Tower complex, with facilities extending beyond the tower itself, including the library associated with the Academy in the Mage Quarter.
Stormwind maintains its own respected magical establishment, and the Mage Tower serves as the Alliance’s primary portal hub in-game.
The entire district is the Mage Hub. That is why its called the Mage District.
and tis aslo just hwo blizzard writes (alliance)
Humans>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> OTHER (lesser) races
is pretty much their stand for alliance
There has literally been night elf content and draenei lore since at least Dragonflight, in the night elves case since BfA.
