I absolutely quit giving a F when it came to Shadowlands with her, though. I was well and thoroughly done with what they’d done to her character at that point.

At some point, she stopped being a coherent character to me. It was just too obvious that multiple different authors were yanking her in different directions. She was just a set of pixels embodying a plot device, doing whatever they needed her to do in order to take the story where they wanted it to go. Story algebra, as a wise forum poster pointed out a while ago:

WoW’s storytelling isn’t arithmetic, it’s algebra.

You don’t add Existing Fact + Existing Fact to produce a Story Event.

You Start with some facts, AND the event you want, and you solve for whatever additional facts need to be introduced to get you there.

It’s not “1 + 2 = X”, it’s “1 + X = 5.”
