I May Be Old, But

I must be old because I’ve never heard of fam, lit, litty. I’ve heard of juiced, and I’m sure I can imagine what the others might stand for except fam… I know what vibing is. I’m so out of touch… Now, kid shows and toddler shows…I’m all up to date on those… lol

Every generation uses vocabulary the previous generation looks down on. Just like every generation thinks the new generation is doing it wrong. If its not nicki minaj’s bum then it’s elvis’ pelvis.

My favourite one is every teenager thinks they are inventing things to do with sex when that’s literally how we all got here.

Sometimes they’ll just use it as a single word. They’ll just say “Cringe”, like they’re narrating their own actions out loud.

Not vibing with this cringe post tbh fam. Not very dummy lit of you

I don’t hate the words used, I hate how they are choosing to use them and how excessively they choose to use them as if its a fun new toy. Though I also try (keyword) not to judge too hard because, ya know what, at the end of the day many of them are my friends and if it makes them happy so be it. As much as some people try to deny it, we all had out “thing” that other generations have scoffed us for and now that another generation has their “thing” we enter that vicious cycle of being the ones to mock and hate it. The cycle forever continues on.

With that said, yeah some of the popular “slang” I hear bugs the heck out of me at times. I think the one that I legitimately stopped and thought “Man, that is really dumb… What are you even saying? Do you even know what you are saying?” recently was the phrase “On God” that my personal circle of friends started using out of the blue… to the point of feeling like it was every other word… It was the one phrase that absolutely stopped me in my tracks and surprised me when I heard that being thrown around and for as best I tried to understand it I just did not get the context in which they were trying to use it. The phrase was just being thrown around as if it was some sort of sentence garnish or sentence enhancer with seemingly no purpose. I even looked up the phrase to try and figure out what it meant and they were most certainly not using it in the right context at all.

What I feel the root of these things are is just some confident and charismatic people (influencers) start using random words with no purpose and then suddenly everyone else starts doing it and words and phrases begin to take up new meanings and definitions. All because of the confidence and way they use it, the way they sell the word to their audience that makes the viewers want to imitate it and then it begins to spread. THAT is an interesting subject in my opinion, how phrases and words can suddenly be spread and popularized seemingly out of nowhere and overnight!

Anyway, I try to be mindful and respectful because every generation has had their own “thing” but man does some of the things that people say, and the frequency in which they are said, bug the ever living snot out of me. I feel like I am becoming a crotchety old man at the age of 31 some days.

I’m probably younger than most here… and I don’t even know half that list.

I blame that on English not being my first language.

I can swear pretty good though. Does that count?

Yo lemme peep your rig homie.

I appreciate the honest response. I too need to relax and little and not let it bother me. It has gotten to the point where I left a guild because a literal 12 year old was saying Fam and Lit every 30 seconds in the raid. Even during the fights. I muted him in coms, but then he randomly became the raid lead one night… That was that.

Oh well. Maybe with more age I will be more acccepting.

I hate when people use Thic, to describe a curvy person. Its cringe worthy. Oh sorry OP.

 :ice_cream:

I have been using the term Thick to describe body shapes, in particular thighs since I was 10 years old (that was a long time ago). This is not something new for me and my friends.

In fairness to your position, some words do get used ad nauseam.

Like “awesome.” I swear, every other commercial had some dude (usually) saying it. Another one is “crushed,” as in “You crushed it!” (actually, I kinda like this one).

Thing is, for me, it’s not so much the words as it is the herd mentality pushing them. Eg, in my day, “outrageous” was a biggie … and we liked it!
