I would say that collectors camping spawns for hours a day is far more hardcore than afk puffing a +15 for my vault…
So should those “hardcores” who camp the Sha of Anger on their alts get respect and rewards commensurate for being more hardcore than you?

I see you are already familiar with some of the content of which I speak. 
This is one definition out of a multitude. There is no standard to this, it is entirely a matter of opinion.

Please reread the post again, because the OP isn’t blaming anyone, unless it’s supposed to be sarcasm, but somehow I’m not getting that.
I’ll let you in on a little secret, whoever wow players are saying blizzard is catering to, that’s who is being blamed.

Most gear lock in Mythic. Story is garbage. and other stuff I’m to lazy to write down.
On a real, real note: this is probably not healthy and you might be depressed if you really never feel the motivation to try at ANYTHING. If you’re really struggling like that there’s help available.
I’m not depressed, I’m a burned-out child prodigy who grew up pondering life and eventually decided that it’s not for me. I stay out of it as much as possible, and that keeps me pretty happy. Putting forth effort is actually something that can depress me if I allow myself to do that, but I haven’t put forth effort in decades because I know myself better than to do that, even if it’s something that I’m excited about. If I put too much energy into it, I’ll sicken myself and just throw the entire thing in the trash.
Says the person who self-admittedly does not do any challenging content. Your playstyle is fine and I’m glad you have fun playing the game, but why offer opinions on subjects which you don’t have any knowledge of?
I contend that this is the correct path for most players.

Yea but you arent very good at pushing buttons a keyboard, do that better and you will find maintaining alts and such at a higher level easier.
If blizzard could make me WANT to do mythic+, I would, but blizzard can’t.
You my friend are not casual, you just don’t play for a lot of time. Casual in WoW is related to content difficulty, not time spent. 9.2 may be the best for casuals SL has been, but it’s nowhere near as good as 5.2, 7.2 or 8.2. 
The content I do is easy, can do 15s while watching Netflix. Now learning how to be efficient at making alts, professions, achievement hunters and collectors, that’s hardcore imo.
I dont believe just cause someone knows how to push buttons on a keyboard correctly they are suddenly not casual anymore,
