I’m making a Night Elf priestess for RP reasons. Starshards >>>
I could understand this on a PvP realm but people spamming that in dungeons is hilarious. Like someone else mentioned, few dungeons have fear as a mechanic.
You don’t need to min/max for dungeons and you sure as hell don’t for raids, unless you’re going in with an underleveled or undergeared party.
You’ll get this a lot more in Classic than we ever got it in Vanilla for a couple of key reasons:
1.) In Vanilla, the majority were not min/max players and theorycrafting (which is what we called min/max’ing back then) was something that most players hadn’t even heard of. In the BfA era, min/max is common parlance, and if you don’t have min/max on your mind in talenting/trait and stat choice, you’re considered “wrong.” In many cases, you will be underperforming SO severely if you don’t have the right talent and trait setup…that you will actually be “wrong” in BfA raids and M+.
In Classic, that wasn’t the case, but the WoW player culture is very min/max focused now. This is why people are going to spam you with the dwarf racial superiority.
2.) A lot of people, as you said, didn’t play Vanilla, and every video they watch on priesting will tell them to roll a Dwarf for the Fear Ward or Troll for the Berserk.
My guild cleared all the endgame content except Naxx (which we quit to prep for BC in the middle). We never had a dwarf priest.
So you do you, my man.
P.S. Having said all of that, I have to say…Fear Ward really is a great skill to have. /wink
Personal experience begs to differ here. I was surprise people cared as much as they did but almost every group i joined had something to say about my being a human and not a dwarf. It wasn’t like they wouldn’t keep me in the group, its just frustrating to constantly be asked to justify my position to strangers, it’s difficult to ignore after the first few times it happens within a 24 hour period.
I don’t want to be a goat-riding Dwarf.
Just think about how much more annoying it would be logging in to see a dwarf just standing there. I’d rather have people whine.
My post wasn’t about fear ward not being BIS for priest, or Dwarves not being good. My post was about players constantly questioning my decision or asking me to justify my decision. I honestly joined a group for Hogger and the first comment out of the human warrior was asking why i picked human over Dwarf. That’s the point of this post.
It’s not that i think Human is better, or that they’re wrong, because they aren’t. It’s that its frustrating to have everyone and their brother tell me that Dwarf is better. i am well aware
I was joking man lol I just like dwarves. Most of my max level toons in retail are either dark iron dwarf, or regular. Play what you like though, good on you!
I play dwarf priest because i like the race/class. Fearward is overrated and only useful in a handful of scenarios. Most raid groups wont care much. In truth, raids will only need/want one fearward, beyond that is overkill.
Dwarves are the master race and it is understandable if you are jealous or intimidated by their perfection.
They look like partially ruptured burritos.
There’s really not much that can be done about that, though I think it’ll happen less once Classic actually launches and the more casual crowd gets more involved that isn’t going to min/max to the point of pointing out your race wasn’t optimal.
Personally I’m rolling RP-PvP and thankfully I’ve not had any problems with wanting to be a Night Elf Priest despite it technically being the worst choice for Priest.
I’ve never read a more beautiful statement. The blessing of Magni upon you brother. Old Magni, not the wuss that pesters me to seek Azerite.
Burritos are delicious!
Hear hear!
play what ya want.
the macro to say politely that you choose what you choose is a nice idea.
outside of raiders, and not everyone will raid the fear ward is at most just a nice to have thing, not a must have thing.
Same same for things like a human warlock instead of a gnome one, etc.
it is always the journey, not some destination, even more so not one dictated by “influencers: many of whom don’t have a clue”.
My Vanilla raid team had 6 priests. 4 were Dwarves, 1 was Nelf and 1 was Human. We didn’t have a problem with the non-Dwarves.
LOL. A priest without fear ward. I assume you never played any end game content. It makes a big difference. #clueless
Other than they are non-Dwarves I imagine.
Edit: I’m gonna add this before I get blasted /s
As long as you know what you’re giving up. I’m sure most raids will have enough dwarf priests to cover fear ward. Only time it might matter is if the raid has a strat reliant on fear ward and they’re short on dwarves.
Other than that, some make a conscience decision to forgo looks for more optimization. For me, I’d prefer to go human lock, but will be rolling gnome for those tasty racials. I’ve never gone gnome before, so it will be a new experience and get me out of my normal comfort zone.
Dwarf priests are cool an all but play what YOU enjoy, as a guild leader/raid leader I will not force someone to sit out to bring a dwarf priest in. I have stance dancing which I enjoyed doing back in vanilla and will do again this time around.
