I Just Realized Korthia Doesn't Have World Quests - and I'm Happy About It

Title. Regardless of my views of the philosophical, general, and technical direction of the game- I can at least say plainly that I am so very happy that Korthia doesn’t have world quests. I’m not making any commentary on the efficacy of the current daily/rare/treasure farming system- but I’m just so happy it’s not world quests.

I miss Isle of Quel Danas and Argent Tournament-esque daily experiences. Korthia is not that- but at least it doesn’t have world quests. Anything is better than world quests. Praise be to The (glorious) Purpose.

P.S. if anyone needs commentary on why I might not like world quests or what that’s all about- see the past 5 years of public forums on world quests.

I’m happy about it as well.

I mean the difference between daily quests and world quests is fairly minimal.

It’s nice to have some variety though.

World quests with a day-long duration are the same thing as dailies IMO. The only differences are that you don’t have to pick them up nor turn them in.

Eh… running around aimlessly hoping to get to rares before they die isn’t what I’d call fun. Nor is staying put in one area aimlessly waiting for it to respawn.

I prefer dailies over world quest. I like having a quest giver and feeling like I’m going on an adventure.

I usually prefer WQs, but with how rapidly events pop up in Korthia, dailies are probably a better UI for that specific zone.

in many ways it reminds me of the Timeless Isles, the WPvP, the constant rares, the treasures… but not as pretty.

World quests in Legion were great cause they were actually rewarding.

Since all the rewards have been nerfed, not so much.

It has dailies, which are world quests you have to pick up before doing

I hate dailies and the system around them. I will take world quests all day long.

That’s the balancing challenge blizzard faces. If you make the rewards strong, people feel compelled to do them and then complain about chores.

If you back off on the rewards in an attempt to make them more of an optional thing, people don’t like them because of the lack of rewards.

I don’t know the answer or have a solution to this, just stating the problem Blizzard faces when designing this part of the game.

One upside, possibly, would be that there’s less floating talking heads yelling at you as you pass through areas that you don’t care to engage.

Nothing angered me more than having some random character pop up shouting about some local problem that I wasn’t going to care about. Except they’d do it like 4 times if it was a spot you had to pass by a few times throughout your session.

I’d rather the former and leave it up to people to decide what their time is best spent doing. It sounds less like Blizzard is trying to create compelling game design so much as micromanage the way people play, but more to keep them from burning out than actually making it fun.

I’d prefer less social engineering and if people feel compelled to do every last thing for that 0.1% upgrade, then let them.

Yeah I much prefer when someone asks me to pick up shardhide poop, rather than me just going out and picking it up myself. This way I can totally say that I’m not the one with the poop fetish.

Fair enough.

IMO anything might be “fun” the first few times, but repetition has a way of making things eventually feel grindy.

That said, I do like that korthia has dailies. It is a nice change of pace.

I also really liked the covenant maw assault

Dailies that reward anima are pretty shtty. They should only reward 9.1 relevant items.

This, exactly. Aside of a little blue exclamation point over an NPC versus an indicator on the map, I have no idea what the actual differences between dailies and world quests are.

Dailies and world quests are the same thing. The only difference is you have to pick up the quest, turn it in and it takes up space in your quest log. These are all quality of life improvements.

Not sure how you can like dailies but hate WQ’s.

Error on the side of too rewarding and then allow people alternatives.

For rep you could do:

  • Dungeon tabards - Keep the rep very low. This allows people who prefer group content to farm it.
  • Mob grinding - For a very small amount each this allows people who just want to get it done a way to complete it at once.
  • World quests - The most rewarding as its the content designed to deliver it.

Do similar things with gold, pet battles, and anima.

I prefer daily hubs where I can pick up all the quests at once and just go knock them out

I know there’s not really a difference between running around the map with quests in your log vs running to each quest, but daily hubs just feel better to me

Also, world quests have a tendency to list 1 objective, then when you complete it, the quest lists another. It would be better if they listed ALL objectives up front. I really hate feeling like I’ve been duped into doing a laundry list of chores
