Sad to see you go Andy. Gonna miss you in LFG, even if you were a bit trolly.
I think the crux of the issue is that classic’s appeal IS the grind. It’s slow, progress is very eventual. Everything only works if you can enjoy the act of grinding. Because at the end of each grind is just a new, different grind. Grind for levels, grind for rep, grind for gear, grind for pvp… if you can’t stand the grind, there’s really nothing for you.
I do feel accomplished! Whenever I finish an M+ run in time I feel good, but the best feeling I’ve had in an MMO in a long time was when I cleared Heroic BfD AOTC. I know that’s not a big deal for a lot of people, but I felt great when that happened.
I rushed to 60 on my first character because high powered guild nonsense. That’s fine, I wanna be in a good guild.
My second char is gonna be reading all the quest text, doing quests in dungeons, running places and not getting summoned…
They are two different playstyles and both are valid. You just have to understand and like each one for what it is and if you don’t like one then don’t do it.
Yeah. I am a casual player right now… used to be no Life’s WoW addict.
I still want dungeons. I still want raiding… when I get a chance. I PuG’d everything. I carry PuGs as much as I can. Dungeon Finder allowed me to raid when I want to raid. WoW token eliminated my gold farming for my flasks and potions. BFA’s Paragon gold rewards eliminated my buying of WoW token… I go straight to raiding or M+ these days.
I have beaten Mythic Emerald Nightmare to its last boss… all on DUNGEON FINDER. Mythic +15 was hard achievement during that season in Nighthold. I quit WoW afterwards for Diablo 3 Necromancers but I came back. I came back in Antorus just in time for AoTC. And finally reached that sweet M+15… all on DUNGEON FINDER… with sleeping inactive guild. You will see my title… Jhannae the Dreamer. It’s an accomplishment. That’s in Legion.
In BFA, Dungeon FInder is still there… WoW token is still there. Paragon Rep Rewards is awesome… WoW token got eliminated. There is a big potential there. I just dont have enough play time. But I can do all the achievements I did in Legion when I get a chance… currently doing M+9… I am M+10 capable now with HoA level 65 with 2 minor essences active. It’s just my time right now is in Classic. I will resume in BFA when my Classic toon reach level 60.
Honestly one of the reasons I went rp-pvp is because it gives you more to do outside of general pve. There’s always a lot of pvp or rp events going on so it keeps it interesting.
I can understand not enjoying it, people find different things fun.
There is nothing wrong with being level focused, but if you are I can see how you might not enjoy Classic. I quest and explore and do the odd dungeon, plus crafting etc, that’s what’s fun to me. Levels are more a side effect of all of the stuff i like to do. I’m actually completing all the quests and doing every zone in order of level, so there are times when I barely get any XP at all, and I am ok with that.
It kind of worries me how many people these days seem to think “Autoattacking things to death while you watch Netflix and reading mostly-badly-written 15 year old quests that I did 15 years ago is a FUN JOURNEY”.
The first time, maybe. Now? There’s nothing fun about it, at best the leveling is a tedious, no-challenge slog to get to endgame so you can work towards goals or PVP, but it seems like this Frankenpatch Legion 1.12 removed even most of that. I give it maybe another month before the majority of people realize this.
You have mentioned that you are in a guild and socializing but since, as you say, “all of my guild is below me in level” did you roleplay with them? Run or help organize a roleplay event? You play on a RP server. You’ve said in other posts that you enjoy roleplay. Do you enjoy writing stories or helping others with theirs? There seems to be a lot of missed potential here. Even being there for them in dungeons where the guild plotline can evolve. I get the dislike for the way leveling may feel to you but are the activities I mentioned enjoyable to you?
By that logic I should enjoy working a 9-5, except it doesn’t benefit me in other fields. It would be like going to work, working to get a new tool at work then saying you enjoy work because you got a new tool to do work. What a strange thought process.
You say suffering, I say working towards something.
I play a game for an intellectual challenge and I don’t find retail to be challenging intellectually. It’s just hollow.
I chose Paladin as my class to level n Classic. But I did it because it was something I never did before. I can say it’s less flashy / exciting than a lot of other classes you could have chosen. So maybe that’s your problem?
Do you feel rewarded from getting drops in Retail? Serious question.
Ignoring your “no-life it” comment. Do you not see the difference between here and Retail? Like, in Vanilla I always felt like there was something to do and if I was close to leveling, I’d want to push that last level. In Retail, I feel no such pull. It’s just meh because leveling in Retail feels empty.
How is it any better than in BFA? Honestly? I have no need to add everybody I group with. Grouping consists of an invite to kill some quest mobs or entering a dungeon, not saying a word and doing said dungeon or killing said mobs. If you are actively socializing it’s because you are choosing to do so, the same can be done in BFA. The “Classic” crowd certainly isn’t the most logical.
Exactly. Every single elite or group quest ive done I just went to the area and stood there, got invited with nobody saying a word, did the objective and left. Ive actually talked more in retail during grouping for stuff than I have for Classic
