I’ve been in a guild since the moment it launched, and my guild has been one of the few perks. You can even see my guild next to my name!
First you say “I got to 60 in classic, and hated almost every minute of it”
Then at the end “it was fun playing with you!”
Make up your mind.
I can easily understand how the gameplay is not for everybody.
The slow pace suits me fine. It’s a style where, if something comes up in real life, I’m not constantly in the middle of something in-game. The line where ‘relaxed’ changes into ‘boring’ is different for everybody, though, which is why I say I can understand if the gameplay isn’t for everybody.
I hated the experience, I enjoyed some of the people I met.
You haven’t pointed out some crazy dissonance.
Nah, you no-lifed to an extent. The bad part though, is that you did it while NOT enjoying what you were doing…why in the world would you do that if you were not having fun?
That’s what games should be - fun. Entertaining. Enjoyable.
When I hit 60 I’ll probably be done with classic.
I have negative interest in the endgame.
Did you ever die from 1-60?
In retail there is basically 0 chance of death while leveling unless you go afk for a long period of time.
Happy trails, OP.
For me, the fun is the late game dungeon crawling. I spend as little time outside of an instance as possible.
If you treat the game like a mindless grind you are going to get out of it what you put in.
Sounds like you spent way too long playing a game you don’t like for … reasons?
You pushed hard to get through the content. No wonder you feel burned out. The game begins at level 1, not level 60. My top level character is 23. I’ve been playing casually since classic launch and I’m loving it. If I’m getting bored I change activities or change to an alt. I see my sub lasting for at least a year.
More or less because the mechanics of the game made me feel compelled to no-life it. I wasn’t enjoying the game at all, but I still felt pressure to “just get one more level,” and so on. Classic is very good at doing what it was designed to do.
I guess I don’t understand. You spent 240+ hours playing a game you didn’t like over the span of 29 days, for an average playtime of around 8.5 hours a day? When I put that amount of time into any game, I can safely say that I enjoyed that game. 240 hours is a success in any other game.
Everything in your post suggests that you are mostly goal oriented. I like classic because of all the microstuff that happens along the way. That’s just what I enjoy, and will probably just use my hunter to grind gold and PvP with mediocre gear and keep making Alts. The leveling process is unique to classic WoW, and that’s why I play it.
I’m sorry that you put so much effort into it and it still wasn’t fun. Sounds like you gave it a pretty good try. Kudos to you for being clear on and saying “I didn’t like it” instead of “this game is awful”.
Deaths were more or less due to accidentally pulling three mobs, or having some dingus run at me with seven mobs chasing them.
Not a presentation of challenge, really.
I’m not knocking you for your opinion. Just stating that paladins are the poster child for boring gameplay, even at endgame.
This is why I could not play Classic on a PvE server. On PvP servers, there’s enough chaos to break up the monotony, and I actually get to use more of my available toolkit. Playing on a PvE server in actual Vanilla made me quit several times.

I’m definitely goal oriented, and so that may be a big part of it!

I don’t find leveling instances any worse than lvl 60 ones. I have fun in both.
RPG’s aren’t for everybody. It’s ok to not like this kind of game.
