I don’t mind the High Elf options being added for those who wanted them.
So long as further customization is Void focused I will be rather happy going forward.

I’m going to say again.
I don’t mind high elves being part of the alliance.
But many people who I think do not look voidy right now (technically as void elves) are seeing themselves rp wise as high elves.
Therefore Blizzard should have just added high elves as a playable race and left void elves alone.
Nothing wrong with rping as a High elf. Folk should be able to play the characters they want to.
And Blizzard said specifically that these options are for those players.
Plus you can then rp like I do. A high elf who went through a similar process to Alleria to become a Void Elf.
No. We do not need a second Thalassian model on the side that didn’t start with it. That’d be like giving the Horde a second Night Elf model…
Especially since they have gone the route of not adding things like Wildhammer and Sand Trolls as separate AR’s.
Had Blizzard gone wild and added all of these options as AR’s rather than relegating them to customization I’d be more inclined…
I do think that the story of Void Elves is really cool. Especially with the explanations of cosmology. Shadow/void were always present in WoW but I personally like how the different cosmological forces story is going.
I think Void Elves are a cool addition to the Alliance. I like the void-touched looks as well. I find the pseudo BE skins really boring. Almost all the VE’s I see now are trying to look like BE’s or ‘High Elves’. High Elves as people complain about wanting them literally exist at an extremely nominal lvl now. Like the lore has stated over and over that the overwhelming majority of Quel’dorei that survived Arthas renamed themselves Blood Elves. While BE’s did’t get Blue eyes and Blue hair until recently, in the game universe the prototypical pale, blonde, blue eyed High Elf people want would have been a part of current Silvermoon.
Can we add more customization for existing races APART from BE and VE? Giving Void Elves blonde hair isn’t going to solve the fact more people play Horde. Or the end game content imbalance where people pushing harder end game content tend to congregate on Horde. Give Nightborne some real options. Give Dark Iron more options.
FYI the full name of the game you are talking about is “Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magicka Obscura”. I read the rest of your post and immediately recognized the game since i played it a lot way back in the day too.
cough Silver Covenant cough
Sadly, people that won’t shut up about the boring tropey elves trump those that enjoy void elves for what they are both aesthetically and thematically.
I thought the whole thing with Void Elves was interesting, I had fun playing one in Legion/BFA, but then I was bored. I couldn’t get into the character, because well, there’s no lore.
I really want to race change him back to Human, but I think I’ll wait until allied race customization.
We’ve had them since 2007
Didn’t Ion say recently that blood elves aren’t high elves anymore or something along those lines? Aren’t you guys like . . . light elves now or something?
No he said they weren’t high elves in that they had moved past that time in their history.
His poor choices of words were then run into the ground by any side that could find a way to twist it to their liking.
Blood elves and high elves have no differences save politics and ideology.
I care little for the new Void Elf skin tones, because that seems to please a lot of the community, but I hope Blizzard draws a line at giving Void Elves the Blood Elf hairstyles.
They’re different. They’re a different race. There has to be some physical differences between the two.
I’m fairly sure some amount of asset reuse will happen when allied races get their customization pass, but I’d prefer if Void Elves got any reused assets from other Alliance races rather than getting more copy/pasta from Blood Elves.
Void elves are an example of incompetence at Blizzard.
No we won’t give you High Elves even though they had established lore and story since the start of wow. That is absurd.
But here is a faction of a faction that had no lore or presence what so ever until Argus came along. Yep… that makes since…
Just give us the blonde and white hair colors already right?! I think at Blizzcon we will see this and in 9.1 for allied race pass. Finally the alliance Silver Covenant will be playable finally.
We are playable right now.
The problem is High Elves.
Blizzard should’ve gone either way: give players HE from the start instead of making this race out of nowhere or stick to the Void Elf lore and aesthetic.
This amalgamation takes away the identity of both (sub-)races and satisfies no one.
Perhaps you missed the non-stop helf spam. This is Blizzard meeting those spammers halfway.
IMO as someone who RPed as a Blood Elf for many years (in other words, my opinion could very well be trash) Void Elves should get the belf hair colors but not the same eye colors. No green, no gold, just shades of blue and purple. Magic taints blood elves so quickly that if one turned to the void, their eyes would most likely be the first thing to change, then the other void transformations with more exposure to it later on. Blood elves get green (for fel), gold (for light) or blue for natural color or for not taking in the light and losing the fel taint.
And a proper black, please!
Blue is arcane. That’s why they had it prior to the Sunwell being destroyed. (after some vague retcons admittedly)
