I just have to say this. I absolutely hate censoring and I’m so tired of these big companies thinking they know what I want or don’t want. I’m so tired of a company treating me like I’m some 10 year old child and censoring things nobody asked for, while their own workspace is depraved and disgusting.
Why is it that the player gets punished for the company having zero morals? Why do we now have to suffer through censoring (especially and mostly only towards females) when I’m a grown REDACTED adult who likes women with big boobs and skimpy outfits. Why is it that all these companies are now suddenly pushing puritan values on me as if they’re some paragon of virtue when it’s been SHOWN they are the exact opposite?
It’s so hypocritical. What happened to games where it was OKAY to be sexy? Why isn’t it okay anymore to be a bikini-clad amazon fighting evil? Or a bare-chested ripped barbarian slaying hordes of half-naked succubi?
All I see now is censoring. Alexstrasza is censored, amazon in diablo is censored, hot-n-sweaty pics are now bowls of fruit.
The only message this is sending to me is that it’s not okay to be a sexy woman now. Ironically that’s actual discrimination. I hate censoring and it makes me sick to think that’s the kind of world we live in now.
EDIT: rewording because the magical three letter word that starts with A and ends with SS is not allowed, what a joke.
EDIT2: people flagged this and it was hidden then restored by mods, maybe stop reporting things you don’t agree with? that’s not what the report button is for.
All I can say is oh my to all of this, just oh my…
Edit: had a second to process this, the issue is objectification. To where the game HEAVILY objectified women through assets that catered to incorrect morals and the like. Simply put it’s one thing to make a sexy character, yet it’s another to plaster it pretty much every where and in a way make women within the game a sex idol and object, over a character that has deep dimensions to them, outside of their appearance.
In which this goes for the same for some of the male characters, although their far less prevalent in game. Given the game itself focused mainly on women and depicting pretty much all of them in a very sexy manner. In any case it’s okay to an extent to make either gender have it’s sexy character’s, yet it’s another to go far out of the way about it, and make it a central theme to the characters, which in turn paints either gender in the light of just being an object to oogle at, over engage and understand their different layers.
I do agree at some levels they did go too far, yet to the same end it was justified. Women simply shouldn’t feel like they are just some sexual object, same goes for men too. Both should be depicted in a fair manner, over just being a one dimensional thirst trap that just feels like goldshire is advertising in different zones.
Sometimes, it’s not about you or what you personally want. It’s their game and they’re going to do as they please with it. What you can control is whether you continue to support them or not.
As someone that dresses pretty modestly in real life it is pretty fun to make various characters and sexy them up a bit, sad to see Activizard caving to a vocal minority. At least i still got access to my older skimpy mogs, for now anyway lol.
Oh geez. Another self-indulgent and overly dramatic topic on this.
If a private business wishes to set standards of behaviour, including what to display in their own product it is NOT censorship! It is their right to do so.
What is and is not acceptable is so subjective that trying to get a consensus is foolhardy. You don’t like how a character is displayed? It might be just fine to someone else, and totally obscene to another. That’s not censorship, that’s artistic license.
I can’t believe the amount of crying that goes on about this stuff. I’m no prude, not in game, or in my personal life, but whether or not I choose to show skin in either is my business, and the artwork in the game is the prerogative of Blizzard and its artists.
I’m certain if you put a little effort in your search you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for somewhere, but don’t expect others to tailor their artwork to your specific needs.
They made it so you can hide your chest armor at the transmogrifier. That wasn’t even possible from the introduction of transmog in Cataclysm to some point in BfA. For plate wearers in particular the options were trash, unless you played a female character in which case you had exclusive access to the skimpiest transmog appearances of all time (which are still in the game btw—things like the Glorious, Lofty, and Vanguard sets from Vanilla, etc.)
It’s easier to make a skimpy transmog outfit than it’s literally ever been, and it might get even easier when they make common and poor quality items eligible
I don’t care about Diablo, but Alexstrasza’s new armor is good actually
As a woman I am not terribly pleased with a tasteful portiat of a woman being turned into a portiat of a bowl of fruit. In that case an image of a woman was literally turned into an object.
Many women like to feel or be sexy. But not be objectified. So perhaps have women design the sexy outfits for women and such. Someone can be sexual and sexy without being reduced to an object to be owned, controlled or abused by another. Blizzard has shown they can’t tell the difference between appropriate expression of female sexuality and inappropriate which is more concerning than anything. They have women working there. Have them make these choices. I highly doubt a woman thought it would be a good idea to turn a picture of a woman into a picture of a bowl of fruit. In fact I don’t think that painting was an issue at all. it’s clear they didn’t communicate with women in general let alone women in their company. If you’re trying to end objectification of women the best thing to do is communicate with women about what they feel is objectification. Not make assumptions that any expression of female sexuality is somehow bad. Because that becomes a whole other issue. It turns into telling women what they cannot do with their own bodies. It’s the same issue at it’s core. If blizzard really feels bad about objectification and harrasment of women then they need to empower women in fixing the issue not try to tackle it themselves.
