I genuinely think Classic will have more players then retail does right now

TBC? 10 char

I don’t know about you, but if they announced, “We’re going to update all our Classic servers to TBC!” I would hear, “and later WotLK, Cataclysm, and all points beyond and worse!”

I would hear “We are releasing all expansions that will make us money” and we all know which ones they were

AQ, still not tough. If you can switch on emps, you can win the whole raid.

Naxx was by and large a gear check.

That’s fine you can disagree, but it doesn’t mean your right.

How? Release new content for something 5,6 Xpacs behind or more? Content stays live because it’s relevant, and old world content with newer xpacs available is just…not relevant. you’ll level past it quickly, and if you don’t it’s not exciting, you’re just stuck.

Thought experiment: lets say any change you, personally, enjoyed happened and anything you didn’t like never was. However, all the zones up to and including Kul Tiras and Zandalar exist. Levelling speed for any given level is equivalent to its speed at the launch of the relevant Xpac.

Would you even want to level a character anymore from level 1? Even knowing that most of the population is keeping to their mains and high level alts and you’ll almost never do a dungeon, skip all the raids, etc? It’d be literally a week /played at least by now for the speed levellersand I don’t think anyone would want it.

Retail’s got a lot going against it but making the old world a cruise was not a bad thing.

and that’s what they should have done. instead of keep adding new areas, maybe the game should have gone horizontal, or add new areas but have part of it take place in old areas such that revamping the old world (which frankly hasn’t occured since cata and could sorely need, seeing as many questlines reference varian wrynn and garrosh, both of who are dead).

I can’t say for sure but I bet it was cata that did the idea in. They re-did the whole world and, in the process, got the most hatred of any expansion until BFA came along. Plus, lots of the type of people that would have otherwise enjoyed the content already had a server full of fully leveled alts to only take through the new zones.

They still update zones, mostly by destroying them and having us play in the ashes. The blasted lands, silithus, darkshore (twice now, I think), etc.

Umm…Warlords got far more hatred then Cata.

and cata got hate not because the world revamp.
cata got hate because half the expansion was so melee unfriendly it was bring casters or die.
cata got hate because they spent so long cater to the uber casual in wrath and making everything easy mode that when you made it actually require CC to do dungeons again, people were flipping out.
cata got hate because triage healing was a friggen nightmare.

My enhancement shaman was ridiculously, insanely powerful in Cataclysm.

What I hated most about Cataclysm was them wrecking the world. And filling it with examples of Blizzard’s obnoxious, juvenile humor.

shamans were also part caster part melee, and thus got the scaling of a caster baked in.
Remember at the end of Wrath in ICC when the new talents came out and they said that melee would suck at first but then be better once they got to 85 and got gear?
and then blizzard spent Cata buffing melee constantly?

There is more people on the general forums because they are actively invested in the game. Once Classic is actually released I’m sure you will see a few more faces around here.

I’m really hoping for BC servers too. I would absolutely love to be able to experience BC again

There’s a decent chance it will. Everquest’s progression servers are more popular than their newest expansions.

There’s nothing stopping you from doing 51 Beast Mastery or 25/26 Beast Mastery/Survival without Blizzard changing talents, to add “melee hunter” crap to the Survival tree or in any other way.

I hope so. If Classic succeeds in a big way it will show that Vanilla succeeded because it was a good game, not because it was the first casual MMORPG to market when most normal people were first getting online.

Vanilla was the high point of the MMORPG genre but also the start of its stagnation and slow degeneration to what we have today. If Classic is successful we might see some new interest in the genre with more focus on old-school mechanics and social interaction.

The bar being set is lowered day by day.

At this rate I agree, retail is awful.

I doubt it. Some of the things people are complaining about, and quitting
over. Were, and are going to be, just as bad, and even worse, than
the current game.

Such as what?

Well for one, leveling speed. people are refusing to even touch alts because
of it.

Another one is lack of flying. There will be no flying at all. They will also have
to level to level 40 to even use their ground mount.
