I forfeit, not skilled enough it seems(Guardian druid MT)

447 attempts and 200k gold with best attempt being 14.7% in P2. My age is showing and I’m not nearly as situationally aware as my younger years, I guess. I am persistent and try not to give up, but I don’t feel like I can progress and here is why.

  1. Eyes knocking back when I’m looking at them but NOT directly down the line. This is infuriating. Most of my losses are from being knocked off the platform. I would say 70% of my losses are from this.
1A. I think a good fix for this would be once the eyes are engaged, they no longer knock back. I’ve dotted one up once with moonfire only to see him sitting there with 6 hp left after the DoT ran its course.
  2. Eyes that spawn in the wood column that can’t be tab targeted to. Super annoying. Please fix.
  3. Nether horrors, if they spawn and you get knocked into a healing pool, they immediately start to cast at their spawn portals after the stun and they run like a bat out of hell to the NPC. Unless you are standing at the npc he insta dies.
3a. Horrors need their hp adjusted and movement speed slowed way the hell down. They should not move at all once channeling.
  4. Shrink the degen circle, other tanks are much smaller than druid. Sometimes it feels like it takes the whole area. I could actually dps the boss with melee then.
  5. I shouldn’t have to be in boomkin for nearly all of P1 just to get to P2 without 3 infernals. I am a bear tank! I want a tank challenge!
5a. P1 boss needs his HP lowered from 50k to 40k.
  6. P2 is a hot mess. There is too much RNG in this phase. Snag boss, watch for beams, clear up adds from P1, boss snare circles, grab new horrors that spawn(they always do), rotate cd’s, heal yourself, watch infernal knockback, interrupt cast or boss goes to full hp AND do omega dps to the boss. W…T…F!
6a. Boss hp needs to be lowered again.
6b. Snare circles need to be smaller.
6c. Horrors need to spawn less often.
6d. Infernal damage is high; Knockback should be removed in P2!

I know people have completed this challenge and lots of respect for doing so. I spent two days of my vacation throwing myself at this and no go. I have completed mage tower during legion and every attempt I felt like I could do it. The same does not hold true here. Anyway, just my 2 cp, I won’t be trying again until it is toned down a bunch.

Don’t forget the rng in p1. I get the first drain life any different times each encounter. I have made it to 2 percent on kruul. I know it’s because all the stars lined up with the rng.

This is exactly where I’m at as well, although I can’t even get to Phase 2. My best so far has been 14% in Phase 1. :frowning:

For the most part the horrors have become less of an issue but I can’t keep up with the internals and the eyes and the associated knock backs when I’m focusing on trying to down the horrors or interrupt the boss.

I’m definitely on the older side of the player base, working 60-70 hours a week on the brink of exhaustion, and came back to wow and leveled up my druid (60 and 217 ilvl) for the hope of getting a cool bear skin since I missed the original Legion. It just does not feel accessible or achievable by an average player.

Absolute kudos to all those that have gotten it, but it seems like it’s tuned for folks with the capacity to do M15+ easily versus M+4-8, which is probably all I’m really capable of without getting significantly carried…

Agreed, things get out of hand quite quickly once 3 infernals are out. The only way I am able to get to P2 with 2 infernals is with drums and pots at the start.

I also am in the same boat; I saw mage tower coming back and had to resub because it was fun and rewarding in the past. I’ve spent more time throwing my hands in the air and screaming at the computer screen the past two days that it is no longer fun or worth my time.

Once I return to work, I will not be able to throw another 400 attempts sadly :frowning:

This kind of honesty and self reflection is… refreshing. Just wanted to say that. No ill meaning intended.

With that said, I just now finished it. What rng are you guys talking about? I feel like P1 is pretty free unless we get knocked due to spacing out. Interrupting him or the horrors are very easy to manipulate into a consistent thing though. Do you guys want insight on what worked for me? Are you fellas going boomy all of P1?

I try to stay in chicken as long as possible, mainly after I interrupt boss. I re-dot and throw some spells at him until I see horrors spawn. I cast regrowth and get into bear to be ready for them. Sometimes I will sunfire them once they are on me to kill faster but hurts like hell if no defensives up.

P1 has gotten easier, I haven’t gotten to P2 in acceptable condition to give it a solid go.

What is your experience? how did you find success?

Only RNG I’ve ran into is when he decides to cast Drain Life. Aside from that, it’s fairly consistent

This is me as well.

Boomy until horrors come up, using typhoon to interrupt first cast and eta boomy a bit longer. Bear mode only after first round of horrors.

I’d love any and all tips! I’ve been reading the forums, watching videos, reading other guides, went and farmed the seed trinket, etc.

I’ve run out of many consumables I stocked up in weeks ago in anticipation and am just out of steam.

No doubt at all it’s a skill issue on my part, I’m just at a lost for what to do next other than “keep at ‘er old boy…” while being objectively worse off due to fewer consumables…

I’m extremely demoralized at the moment…

Sure, I’ll give ya guys what I did.

Quoting to notify.

So P1 for me was essentially free every time. This is what I did.

Once fight starts, (about a global before) I popped HotW. Then I casted starsurge, both dots, and started pumping wrath and starfire. You can follow the eclipse pattern if able but any cast is better than no cast so don’t stress it too much. It’s not as impactful as an actual boomy.

So I continue to pump and watch out for the first eye. I immediately moonfire the eye and that’s it for him, he’ll die. The very first drain life I just typhoon. All the while take a second to regrowth if you ever get to like 80%. I also moonfired the infernals if they were up and just tried to stay cognizant of their knock. I only wild charge to recover after a knock if I screwed up.

Anyway just maintain both dots and starsurge on cd. When the horrors first come, regrowth yourself. They’ll aggro to you. Once they group up I sunfire them and then go bear and thrash. I typically use a frenzy regen and once they cast, I roar them. Then maybe a swipe and go back to moonkin. You can bark skin almost every horror set if you’d like for easy brambles kills but I typically only used when I wanted more damage on bigger foes or as an actual defensive. It has a super short cd so you can be liberal with bs in P1

You can also root an infernal if you ever want him to stay away. Honestly phase 1 isn’t much of a race in my opinion. It’s not super global dependent. Just always maintain dots, starsurge off cd when you can and cast wraths and stuff otherwise. Regrowth as often as you want, dot eyes when they come up, and I alternate typhoon and skull bash for drain life. I’ve even gotten knocked and had him drain like a crap ton. The run isn’t over, it’s totally fine.

I don’t use any orbs for phase 1 and I’m very rarely in bear. Only to frenzy and thrash and skull bash when things are grouped. I don’t use movement cds like dash or anything and I feel like I average like 650-800 dps in phase 2 depending on how well I was playing. I guess that’s not an average, it was usually like 730ish.

So to summarize:

  1. Alternate typhoon and skull bash for interrupts.

  2. Maintain basic boomy dps on boss.

  3. Dot eyes as you see them and try to look at them.

  4. Dot infernals and avoid their knock. (I tended to run close to them to make them cast it and then run through them to avoid it. Or sidestep. They die pretty quickly).

  5. Regrowth to aggro horrors and sunfire them. Then rose their cast and kill them. They’ll all die in like 2-3 globals.

If you use an orb, try to only use one. Be liberal with barkskin and frenzy but try not to press anything else.

I used slands gear. I never pre potted, and used basic consumables. Flask, food, rune.

I’m still struggling with phase 2. I usually push it with the 3rd infernal up and half way to the 4th.

Gotten a few 10-15% pulls but there always seems to be a lot going on and me trying to focus on everything all at once.

Normally I’m focusing on Nether Horrors when an annihilate goes off and kills me (due to lack of using a CD or not paying attention to my health and not using an FR)

I think that will all come with time. The more you play P2 the less hectic it will seem. For the first annihilate I just use iron furs (I basically don’t spend rage in phase two unless I’m capped, I’ll toss a maul out if I know I’ll have time to get it back).

For the second annihilate I’ll iron fur again. 3rd and 4th I’ll use survival instincts but I make sure to be almost topped. At least like 10k health. I use skin for damage but you can stack it with the 4th one if you need.

You only need a couple orbs, 3 at most. I don’t use one for the first annihilate. I used orbs mostly to interrupt horrors if they weren’t grouped (or rather grouped near Velen) or to recover after 3rd and 4th annihilate.

Almost every wipe I had was due to a knock or the pushy line things. But if you really focus you’ll start to optimize. When I finished it, it wasn’t some I died and npc finished for me. I was like half health, things were dead, I mean I crushed it. It was just a solid run.

This is not even a skill issue thats stopping me at this point. I can survive in phase 1 long enough to end up with 4 infernals. Its simply a dps check which feels broken. My best attempt was 20% in P1.

I do not have the resources to spend on the amount of consumables that this apparently requires to do it, nor do I have trinkets from previous expansions on this character to cheese through it. My best attempts even doing the Moonkin method I barely break 500 dps. All the videos I see of people clearing it and claiming you need to get through to kruul with no more than 2 infernals, are breaking 800 to 1000 dps.

That means at this point for me its no longer a skill challenge but a resource challenge. Even if i did make it to Kruul i would never kill him before the 5th Annihilate. For something that was meant to be a throw back challenge etc this is very dissapointing.I’m in the same boat as the OP I’ve been around so long since classic wow that my relexes etc just aren’t what they used to be.

Will say the internals knockback hit box is kinda weird I sometimes just dont get hit and other times I get hit when I really shouldn’t.

2400 tank here. It’s not tuned for me either. My best/luckiest attempt so far is 12%. I only see Kruul like once or twice an hour. I’m 14 hours in right now.

Just waiting for RNGesus to help me out a little with the eyes or the slow puddle + double yeet combo. Outside of not being able to dps the boss because I’m trying to save Velen (who’s apparently a geriatric hospice patient in this scenario) who somehow draws the adds over actual moon fires and FR, getting slowed and then yeeted only to charge back and get yeeted again is my top cause of p2 death.

Eyes spawning inside the platform or failing to do the eye beam thing would be the lead in p1, along with Velen just folding to infernal aoe or maybe drinking tap water over Dasani.

Nerf p1 HP on boss, buff Velen HP. I beg of you.

I finally got it and I died just like most folks on the 5th annihilate. You can pot twice. One thing I started doing is I pre pot before going into the tower with Unbridled, you get a solid 30sec of potion uptime on the first boss. This helps speed things up and go into P2 with only 1 infernal. Then you pop your second pot on Kruul. GL

I got it tonight after another 50 or so attempts. My kill attempt was super sketch, but I didn’t die at least. I was at like 5% hp after the 3rd annihilate lined up with me getting yeeted, but I had that bash on standby and I made it to an orb. He died during that disorient. I even had an orb despawn on me because I took the wrong one early on.

Yikes man. Super tight. I needed legit a perfect phase 1 to take 2 infernals into p2, and even more damage control to make sure they were alternating and not up at the same time.

So. Many. Things. But it’s done. Now I can die.

I also have tried countless times and cannot even get to Phase 2. I am very disappointed that I waited for this event only to learn that apparently it’s a DPS challenge, not a tank challenge. I can survive (for the most part) I just can’t find enough time in boomkin form to DPS the first boss down. This is not what a tank challenge should be IMO, and it just goes to show the failed imagination of Blizzard, once again. Thanks for NOTHING.

I’m getting to phase 2 easily every time now but keep getting yeeeted off to rng.

What I can say for those struggling in phase 1 is there is a very genetic pattern variss follows. Just after you interupt the first drain life, the portals will open. Cast regrowth on yourself so the adds focus you, then, drag adds on variss and aoe them down. Jump out of the pool, FR, boomy, root infernal, bsck to boss star surge etc.

Eyes, boss, eyes, portals, interupt boss > regrowth, stack boss, barksin, aoe down.

Root infernal, Eyes, boss, eyes, portals, interupt boss, > regrowth, etc

Guys, you have to stop throwing around the phrase “rng” every time you die. Nothing random is making you die. A lack of awareness is and you need to accept that to improve.

You can get consistent 2 infernal phase 2’s with basic slands gear. No gimmick trinkets or past xpac gear/enchants/gems and no pre potting or dps cds used besides heart of the wild.

I’d you’d like a general breakdown I can provide or if you have specific scenarios or questions I can try and help. I don’t say any of this trying time be condescending, but that’s all I read on these types of threads is rng this, rng that, or “I play perfect but it’s a dps check and I don’t have the magic items!”

It’s all bs. None of that is true. I promise this can be done with less than you think.
