friend wanted to level alts together but every time I try an it feels bad.
the time i am spending on this alt could be put to leveling my main which is in sight of the finishing line!
the deaths to low level mobs are feeling like double time wasted!
quests that give mostly giving garbage rewards until maybe level 40s feels meh
the mobs that drop white items that people won’t even pay coppers above the vendor value for!
the vendor trash filling up the very limited bags that sells for a pittance!
tldr friend wants to play a new alt but I am finding it daunting, what should I do ?

I wish I could play Classic this way.

You want us to either say ditch your friend or continue to play out of friendship sake?
Those are your choices. It has to be yours, alone.

Level doesn’t matter to me if I am running around with a friend. I don’t have the gang of friends playing classic like I did in Vanilla so I agree Alts are hard to get motivated for. A real life friend playing would change all that and I’d rather play with him or her than farm gold at 60.

If you don’t want to then you should not do it. That’s what I suggest. I mean I’m not even trying to be rude. If you need random people to convince you to stick it out, it’s prolly not worth it. There’s plenty of people on the server for your friend to level with.
I for one love alts but I agree the beginning levels are annoying. Like I’m leveling an alt boomy when my main is a BiS bear. (I know…I know don’t lecture me on balance lol). My alt is only lvl like 12-13 or something because he doesn’t feel like a new toon until he actually gets high enough to gain the identity of a “balance” Druid. Otherwise he’s just another low level smacking stuff haha. I also decided to invest time to get my bloodthirst breastplate to truly be BiS besides some MC pieces so I got side tracked yet again.
Just do you man.

Calm down. Take a deep breath.
Only play the alt when your friend is online. Play your main the rest of the time. Problem solved. You have at minimum 2 years to do everything you want to do with your main. Missing a couple dozen hours on your main to play with your friend isnt going to mean much in the end.

It’s 100x easier to level an alt in classic without neglecting your main than it is in BFA. Remove level boosting from BFA and you’ll realize how disgusting that leveling process is even with heirlooms and level 1 mounts. What a train wreck.

You should level your main to 60 and so should your friend. Then level an alt if you desire. You can sit in LFG on your alt and if something pops up that interests you on your main you can attempt to join that group. Just park them close to the instance you want to run.

pretty much this, there is kind of a turning point where you have enough talents and gear where things don’t feel so bad, I guess its just the struggle of getting to that point.
I fell like I could just log out build the rested then grind mobs on the rested and level that way just until it picks up
thanks for the responses!
I’d love to find a friend to level up with. I’d switch from my main to an alt in a second. But I’m in no hurry to get my main leveled up.

While you’re leveling your alt, your main is parked in an inn soaking up that delicious double xp rested bonus.
What i’ve done is spend an additional $4 a week to use a second account. 1 account for the 60, the other for the alts. Never need to level normally ever again. Just run myself through dungeons and rake in boatloads of gold, greens and cloth. But thats just me.

I have six alts, between lvl 24-32. but I’ve been playing since BC so the grind is as effortless as breathing for me. moos of the classic alts are rerolls from retail but I’m getting into a couple classes I didn’t play much before.
try different classes. maybe something else would be more fun. really, you should try all the classes, at least to level 10
That sounds fun. You can run from mob to mob and never have to worry about your health. Your pocket healer on your other account can keep you up. Never have to think about strategy or worry about dying.
All the best parts of retail, easy quick leveling, with none of the bad parts, having to find someone to help with dungeons and playing with other people.
Myself, I always park my main around lvl 50 and switch to alts. I like to lvl my main to a high enough lvl to be a provider for my alts and I have 1 of each class. I really don’t care about that magical thing everyone else obsesses over called “endgame”, I just love the journey.
Play with your friend. It’s important to maintain RL friendships. And when he is not online, play your main and take advantage of rested XP.
Alts can be fun. Play a class you find odd but u enjoy and something you can see yourself raiding with from time to time in the future…
TBH alot of people I think underestimate how many random classes will be raiding in a year from now once everyone stops caring so much about Min/max the classes for raids.
I’m lvling 9. Get on my level.
To the OP, what is important to you in classic? Why do you play the game? If your focus is endgame and you intend to clear raids, then your focus needs to be your main for example. This is a question that has no right answer, just an answer that’s right for you.
