I dont think it's fair to expect people to play with their keybounds

I couldn’t imagine pure clicking all my abilities, but I can say that I am 100% a “hybrid-clicker”

I have my 1 - = skillbar that I exclusively use the set keys for, and then I have my second bar above that filled mainly with my long non-gcd damage/defensive/utility cooldowns that I will click onto as these are things that you only interact with sparingly and/or have long downtimes between uses. Obviously I could take a step to make it slightly more optimized by consoidating a few things together into macros but I’m too lazy and having to retrain my muscle memory for that isn’t worth the slight improvement I might gain to me as I don’t raid past Heroic.

Also to be fair I also play a BM hunter so I don’t have as many abilities in my rotations in general compared to most other classes making this strat easier lol

couldnt agree more.
I mean, if we’re playing solo, have at it.
But if we have other players relying on us for ANY role, we should be using, at the very least, all the options in game to make play as optimal as we can for the content we’re running.

i like that term “hybrid clicker”

I am in that camp too.

I still have forward, backward and strafe on my keyboard but I made the leap to delete keyboard turning many moons ago. that made a world of difference.

but there are many times that your mouse cursor needs to be doing work that prevents you from using it to move. I have a mouse with two side buttons that I have for strafing. I am not a fan of the 12 button mouse.

most of the time, the mouse moves me. sometimes, the keyboard feels better. and sometimes, the cursor clicks the spells/abilities

Definitely normal for a new player to be clicking and not using add-ons. The folks that are coming to WoW from other MMOs which they were highly skilled at playing are probably few and far between. Doubt many people are loading up for the first time, immediately binding keys, and with a full suite of addons.

Also, there’s nothing difficult enough before 70 to even require changing over.

??? Your spells go into your action bar right at the beginning. The action bars that have key-binds in place. It’s not as likely as you may want to assume. I’ll admit it’s not as rare as I assume. However I do think new players are more likely than not to hit the 1 key to use spell that’s in that slot and not click with their mouse.

Back in the day (TBC) I taught myself to use the keyboard by removing the action bars from my screen completely (displaying the CDs with some add-on, weakauras weren’t a thing yet).

I forced myself to play like this and in a couple of weeks I was ready and added the bars back into my UI.

sounds like a tank problem

also, just learn to ignore and not respond

if it’s any consolation, when I used to run dungeons and received any complaints I had zero issues watching them die to zero heals.

Haha yeah! Idk for me keyboard turning is also this weird thing that I always just naturally have been able to switch on and off seamlessly as needed. Esp when I am doing slow chill content I will just run with my one hand while eating or something, and in raid I will turn with whichever method seems most efficient at a given point in time during the fight without having to put much thought into it at all

There are people that just keep clicking those abilities even though some of them fall onto the numbers automatically. Really though, if the 6-7 you can easily reach while keeping a finger on W were enough to not be a clicker we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

You’ve got more abilities than the default keybinds are going to handle by like level 20.

My advice is learn to press buttons instead of click. 100% worth it.

It is not just this game. In fact, is not just in gaming…people do not want to do things with people who only do the bare minimum. That is just human nature. Strive to be better. This particular example is pretty easy, you can do it.

It was easier for me too, until I forced myself to learn keybinds.

It’s fine if you want to be a clicker, but you have to accept its not an optimal way to play and in higher level content, you’re throwing.

It’s not designed around playing a particular way. The game just gives you enemies to defeat, gives you the abilities and gear to defeat them, and it’s up to you to use everything you have to accomplish that.

If you can do what you need to do with clicking, then click your abilities.

If you can’t, try something else. Try a different game mode or difficulty level, or try a different way of using your abilities. You don’t even need to use your keyboard. Some people play WoW just fine with using only their mouse for abilities, and some people play with a controller. Whatever works for you.

You can play the game as a clicker just fine. What you have to accept is that a person who isnt clicking is going to be faster than you. And the nature of M+ is like that that you will have to be faster and faster to survive. Same goes for Raids in the higher difficulties. For leveling dungeons you can roll your face over the keyboard and everything still dies. In PvP you will get stomped.

You already have that. Lower difficulties. You can be a clicker just fine in about 99% of PvE content.

Because clicking is slower than key pressing by default.

Get a 20 button mouse and use unit frames. Have the keys on the mouse bound to the abilities on your hotbars.

With mouseover enabled it’s lightning quick.

I was a clicker when I first started playing when I was young. I eventually learned how to play though.

Your performance was notably bad. That’s why you were originally called a clicker.
You’re fine to click… if you’re fast enough at clicking.

You could be.
But you are not.

If I’m not mistaken one of the WoW class devs plays with a drawing tablet or something.

I use a controller so i don’t see why a mouse is a bad thing.

Is anyone else not comfortable using the number pad on an MMO mouse to do mouseover healing? I see that being suggested a lot in this thread but I always feel like I jostle the mouse too much to keep the cursor in the correct place.

Where did you get that account? The account store?

I know some people don’t want to try and learn key binds because they might seem difficult. But, Even if you disregard efficiency, I think clicking is actually the harder way to play.

You would need so much mouse movement to constantly point and click different buttons for DPS rotations, defensives, etc. I would get very tired after one dungeon.
