I don't like when IRL Males

As someone who is actually married to a trans-man and I play a BIG orc warrior. OP… go hug a puppy. seriously.

I play a female troll warlock, much to your apparent chagrin. I wouldn’t change her for anything (since Zandalari won’t be partaking in the dark arts.)

ikrrrr?? c’mon show a little gender pride >.>

No, I’m not a homophobe, transphobe, misogynist, machoist or God knows what psychological problem you have in your brain.

To be fair he could just not be a fan of RP and weirded out by guys playing female toons. Those accusations seem a bit harsh imo

One thing is to not like playing a female character. That’s totally fine, it’s personal taste.

Another completely different thing is to imply there is something wrong for a guy to play a female character. That is indeed a symptom of some psychological issue.

I started playing male toons. but staring at an orc males behind for hours made me sick at my stomach. So that is why I made some female toons. A lot better view. A 7 foot elf either faction looks a lot better from behind. And a female that does everything you tell her, even kill herself…

Disregarding that WoW is not the place to look for for love, I know a few people who say the same. People who cared once but eventually moved on. Not all did, though.

That they wanted to be known as male, and it was important to them. So they only rolled male toons, to make sure no one confused them for a female.

Some of these guys don’t think much of what others roll, others do. Usually, in my experience, when they do think poorly of it it’s because they don’t want to be seen as a woman.

To them, if you roll a toon that’s the wrong gender, they can’t help but think you either don’t care (which is absurd to them and needs a subconscious explanation because they know it’s a big deal), or you’re actively making a statement.

It’s impossible, in their mind, to completely separate their own reasoning from yours. They can’t see that their own desire for machismo isn’t universal, or think that a desire for machismo is mandatory to be a straight male.

That’s like if I were to say I don’t like when IRL females play male toons…

I know, it’s crazy… girls do the same thing that guys do. They play the opposite gender for whatever reason suits their fancy.

Some do it because it’s what they attract to, and it just feels weird to play as their own gender. (I know several men and women who fit this category)

Some do it for RP purposes, they create a story character who’s gender just happens to be opposite of their own. (This is actually very common amongst RP players)

Some do it just because it is an option. (I’ve met a few who put their character gender up to random chance and flip a coin at character creation)

Some do it for multiple reasons either listed above or not listed at all.

Personally, I’m Female IRL, and I play only Female characters because of multiple reasons.

  1. I am female, so it feels natural to play a female for me.
  2. I attract to females, it feels odd to me to play a gender I don’t attract to… I’ve tried… multiple times… just can’t.
  3. I create RP personalities for all of my characters, and they are female.

edit: Just to clarify, I have no problem with anyone playing whatever gender they want. We all have our reasons and all of them are right for us. The comment at the top of my post was directed at the OP, not the post above mine.

you said IRL. you don’t know us or anyone else IRL in this game that has posted. just let it go. I am drunk. and bored.

I don’t like it when IRL males post hysterical complaints about males rolling and playing female characters.

However, I have never started a thread to complain about this issue.

Easy op.

They want to look at something not real and “admire” their toon in certain ways. Which is disturbing considering some old guy probably dreamed up the design they are infatuated with.

Or

It’s the closest thing they’ll get to the real thing.

Either way it’s their choice.

You never seen my awesome wife And how good looking she is. 3 ppost llimit. I had to change characters. old mech keyboard chatter. sorry.

I just like the role play aesthetic.

Not in a weird, creepy kind of way though. There’s nothing “appealing” about my characters in a sexual way. I just think that certain races males don’t look right, or that certain classes look better as certain genders based on my own ideals.

A hunter, or a mage, or a priest? Those are going to be female on my account. I like the idea of a mage or a ranged player being lithe and quick. Agile, if you will. Rogues, too, strike me as better looking as female because of their size and assumed agility.

Honestly, I doubt most of us pay that much attention to our character itself. Like, we might transmog for ages, worry over what looks “good” or “bad”, for sure. At the same time, I’m rarely thinking about the gender of my character.

It’s whether or not these shoulders look good on this specific character, or whether that bow looks right with the rest of the outfit. The characters gender plays almost no role in how my character is perceived to me except to change the mannequin upon which I’m putting the clothes.

I just don’t really “think” of my characters gender at all outside of what kind of mannequin I want to play dress up with or if it fits the class/race I’m playing.

I certainly think there are more options than you’ve provided, but ultimately it’s everyone’s personal choice, and not up for debate or ridicule.

And most female characters written by men are garbage.

I actually have three female chars personally, two are based off women I’ve known in the past and one off a fictional character from a movie.

Everyone I’ve asked about this would usually say something along the lines of “if I have to look at my character while leveling x levels I want to at least have something attractive to look at”.

I agree with you on that.

I’ve been a firm believer that this is a cop-out. It’s easier to attribute your preference to sexuality than it is to just say “I like a female here better.”

Which is to say that it’s an easy way to defend your masculinity. It’s one of those situations where young boys will get really upset if you refer to their action figures as dolls.

Functionally they’re identical to dolls, but if they don’t have a more masculine concept attached people get bent out of shape.
