Hey there. I don’t do a lot of dungeons… kind of nervous about the toxic community I’m always hearing about. But it’s getting to the point where I can’t solo anything. Can’t do torghast, can’t harvest souls get killed just walking around probably.
Anyone got any advice?

I don’t think anyone has fun in the maw actually

Your ilvl is super low. Everything kinda got balanced around ilvl 200 or so, at least most of the new content is. Might have to focus on gearing up a bit first.
Also take healing hands over JV for survival. Healing hands is tremendously stronger than JV. JV numerically is pretty much a waste of a talent.

the Maw isn’t fun anymore
Wait a minute, this implies that at some point you thought the maw was fun?

So as stated your ilvl is really low. JV has been a dead talent. Can not justify spending all of our holy power for such a weak hitting ability and weak heal.
It’s so sad that Retribution has talents like this. As a 5HP ability, JV is just so lackluster. It’s kind-of sickening how ignored Retribution is for PVE/Mythic+ content, unless it’s to slam them with a nerf I guess.

Ret is not the only one. Many classes have dead talents.

Try and farm yourself some (fairly easy to get) Korthia gear by killing rares before you step back into the maw. It will help quite a lot. GL out there.

Do the covenant quests and level up the set gear they give you as a reward. I also often do quests in protection spec. Ret takes so much damage that I have to spend too much holy power for word of glory instead of templars verdict, which means you lose a lot of damage done. If you try quests in protection, just make sure you pull 4 or 5 of your quest mobs at a time and your kill speed will start to be similar to Ret.
The only time you are going to get yelled at in a group is if you’re doing something that you are clearly not prepared to do and failing because of it, which is actually really hard to do now a days. I heal, which is a role that normally gets a lot of criticism, and I can’t remember the last time anyone had a bad thing to say. Normally people don’t talk.
Last night I did Tazavesh for the first time and everyone was new to the dungeon and we were all very supportive. We managed to clear it after 2k gold worth of wipes. You’ll be surprised how nice and supportive people can be in wow.
With your ilvl you should be in the group finder doing regular then heroic dungeons. The rule of thumb is that the minimum ilvl for any content is 15 ilvls below the loot the drops.
So, if a dungeon drops 200 ilvl gear, then you are ready to start running the dungeon at ilvl 185
You can do this.
OHHHHH 1 more thing
You know the covenant set you get from doing the campaign quests? You can upgrade it to ilvl 197! Maybe even higher this patch. It only costs a few thousand anima for the whole set!!! Do that and get your renown up so the world quests drop ilvl 194 gear (trinkets, rings, weapons, etc) and you can get your ilvl up high enough to do the maw and torghast again.

Thanks everyone. I was unsubbed for a while, so I didn’t see your answers, but this is very helpful. I didn’t realize I had a dead talent, and I didn’t realize I was that undergeared. I usually just wander through things without a plan, and haven’t had this much trouble in a while. I really appreciate the simple advice you have offered.

Sometimes people use words I barely understand. It’s been so long, I feel like I need a new refresher on how to get anima, renown, etc. Guess I could find a guide on wowhead for that.
I just ran my first dungeon in a while last night, De Other Side, I think it’s called. I got lost, fell off the world once, and barely helped at all. No one said a word, and I got 2 new pieces of gear.
Thanks again for the advice
Glad DoS went well, if the maw is still being a pain I would suggest to the new zone Zerith Mortis, you still might struggle but with more players, you’ll be able to tag their mobs and work with them. Plus you’ll be able to get currency for better catch-up gear.
That brings up another question… how do I get there?
I haven’t been to Korthia either. Are those zones locked behind completing certain content?
Thanks for the suggestion.
The quest for it pops up in Oribos, you might have to do a bit of the Kyrain campaign until you get it.
My advice is for you to done some campaigns, specially the zereth mrotis one, you will get some good gear and a free legendayr at the end, that shall boost your ilvl to do everything just fine friend.
