I don't get it, why do people want the removal of unrated Conquest gear restriction?

Its called timegating and grinding, both of which Blizzard loves, but it also gives the no lifers a leg up, which they love. Or buy gold which Blizzard loves even more.

All roads lead to shareholder value. The stock price is the ultimate overlord and everything they do now has a direct/indirect correlation to it.

Actually we aren’t calling for the removal of the restriction to level it up, we are calling for the removal of it completely, going back to the two set concept. One honor and one conquest. Even R1 players are calling for this and hate the current system. So it’s not a matter of finding people to level the gear up with, because they have that.

You shouldn’t have rank gated gear and you shouldn’t have to grind honor for the gear you’ve already earned.

When I show in Korthia with my 205 alt he seems to get targeted fast and some of the dudes there with 240ilevel enable their elixir of tongues to all me names and are so aggressive calling me coward since I run back into the safe zone.

What’s ironically funny is when someone around their gear level shows up they can generally do the exact same thing :slight_smile:

Why do some of these folks with the gear edge seem so desperate to kill the lower gears; it’s mind bogglingly comical lol…

Maybe this is bait, but your question doesn’t upset me, so I’m fine taking it.

I recently resubscribed to play Classic SoM so I can post here again. I’m level 25 there lol.

Obviously I’m a casual. I have been since wotlk, when I stopped playing more seriously. Arenas were never my favorite form of pvp. I fell in love with BGs in vanilla and never looked back.
RBGs do scratch the itch sometimes, but are often quite sweaty even at low ratings. Not to mention joining or forming a group takes much longer then the random BG queue.

Basically, I only have 5-10 hours a week to play. I’d like to spend it playing, not jumping circles in Oribos while forming a group. I’d like to have fun, and not have to join discord or any voice chat with strangers. And I’d like to not be one shot in a random BG.

I’d be fine with a long grind that had no rating requirement, because I’d feel it was at least possible to achieve, regardless of whether I actually do it.

Maybe all of the above reasons mean WoW PvP isn’t for me, and then it is what it is, but you asked. I genuinely hope this helps.

It’s actually funny you mention that. I queued into an IoC with the OP Warlock a few weeks back and recognized his name as he was trying to direct the BG Via chat the entire match, then noticed he did a total of like 177k dmg, as a Warlock, for the whole BG.

I then proceeded to make fun of him for being 1337ist and trying to exclude people from PVP on the forums, while not knowing where his buttons are located. Was a good time.

People remember back when you could gear up to do PvP in a few days and then spend the rest of the expansion doing PvP. As a casual. No layered grinds, no premades of geared players farming what used to be casual content to get their free, effortless currency by farming graveyards to destroy the playing experience of those who you are driving out of the game.

Gee, why would anyone want to play a game for fun when they can pay to be your punching bag?

that delicious negative feedback system when you are awarded your gear upgrade but it is less strong than what you are wearing and you need to spend hours grinding honor to rank it up to usefulness

like getting a punch in the face as a reward but the good news is the pain will fade to numbness eventually

I loathe reward systems with negative feedback systems intentionally integrated into it for the sole purpose of increasing grind

the current wow progression team is showing a masterclass in how to break addiction to habit forming dopamine feedback loops by introducing too little dopamine and too much friction

They seem to be under the impression that feeling good about the game is a bad thing. Only by making players feel really bad about playing will they feel inspired to excel.

on my realm korthia is considered a ‘horde only’ part of the game for this reason.

i wonder if the game devs had THAT in mind…

I mean the Alliance have been getting the better WM bonus since like 8.1 really. Which means Horde have been the more active in WM than Alliance for all but 1 patch since WM was introduced.

you’re right! and i want to apologize for distorting the numbers of active players. i was WRONG! there are more like 1 million current active player, not 4 million. and probably half of them are playing classic. so, it’s really more like half a million players. but why would ‘classic’ be so attractive to so many?

going to have to think about that one for a bit - but it CAN’T be that even the thought of reliving previous versions of the game is SO attractive to so many.

Idk what realms you’re playing on… I would be shocked if Classics population was over 200,000 players. some realms have nearly 18k players, and others have less than 500.

wow’s peak population coincided with the massive uptake in people laid off and having nothing to do all day along with tons of millennials having all the free time in the world still being in college and high school or still living at home. it also preceded social media and was one of the first culturally wide spread online games that wasn’t halo.

the novelty of playing with someone on the other side of the country or world has worn off, and millennials have grown up, genz isn’t nearly as big and will likely just be a genx 2.0.

the end result is that wow had a magical moment by being at the right place at the right time with the right idea. since part of that is circumstances outside of blizz’s control, its why they have never been able to repeat, no matter what they try, they will never have those conditions again, at least not for 15-20 years, but even then maybe not, millennials ain’t having kids, and even if they wanted to, even asymptomatic covid damages testicular tissue, so we will be having fewer kids anyway.

why classic is popular? because people want to go touch that magical moment in their lives where they were care free and could just play all day. actual classic is a pile of trash due to everyone “solving the game” and trying to be the epic cool guy. if everyone is epic cool guy, nobody is epic cool guy, which is why classic has problems and once people scratch that nostalgia itch, they go back to whatever they were doing before.

vanilla preceded facebook. 2000-2010 was sort of the golden era of online gaming and the internet in general, we were past the AOL days and you could play online with someone from across the country or even the world, this was ground breaking at the time, as was the concept of making friends online. today all that is so routine nobody even gives it a second thought, but in 2004 wow was one of the few places to do that.

wow’s peak population was wrath of the lich king, which released as the 2008 financial collapse was hitting people, most of people i played all day with were either neets or layed off.

millennial’s population boom is a result of them being the children of baby boomers, themselves the largest generation in western history until millennials came along.

there just isn’t that population spike and now with covid there may not be one for a while as the family jewels contain a lot of ACE2 receptors that covid loves to wreak havoc on.
