Was thinking about classic WoW and TBC and the future expansions to follow, and I don’t understand the appeal. I have played WoW since the opening day of Vanilla and have seen “almost” all the content. Have not been a serious raider since the end of of original TBC but I have seen most raids, every dungeon and participated in PvP every expansion.
After seeing WoW progress from day one, why do people want to backtrack, and do the same content from scratch. I am not coming from a point of judgment on this, was just hoping people would feel free to explain the appeal that took them there.
Safe travels.
It’s not about redoing the content. Classic is a different game.
It’s not different from replaying your old favorite games.
Nostalgia is a powerful emotion.
Because not everyone has played WoW from day one.
The universe doesn’t revolve around your experiences.
Here is what I have seen so far. Just my observation.
A lot of Classic players are returning players. Players that have dropped retail for whatever reason. They do not like retail, so they play the OG version.
Players who like retail, like actually enjoy new content, new story lines etc, do not find Classic wow to be that appealing.
I played TBC. Got T4 on my prot paladin. Haven’t logged back into TBC for a few months already.
I get your point, but what % of people in TBC are seeing it for the first time?? My educated guess is most people have played through it already. Although I do concede, there are definitely those people that wanted to see the game in order from the beginning, but they are a vast minority.
Btw, this was a aggressive response to a honest question, are you ok Bro??
i say on u somtim , pepole dont getta play it past then if it come out now is O K to play it bc there laliving now
I know I’m drawn to tbc because I like the old talent tree I level a 2 handed wind fury shaman I like the slower grind and the ability to twink and run bgs without having to use exploits.
I like the community and since there are a lot but not “too many” people that stick with it you get to run groups with familiar faces and not some rando who you will prob not see again
There is a lot of appeal to it for myself and others that grew up from vanilla I guess but then again I also like to sit in my truck outside of Walmart and watch the weirdest people that go shopping there ![]()

Am I wrong for that ![]()

it was better
I was excited to play thru vanilla for the first time and see and enjoy the content they have removed from retail.
Then I discovered it is pretty face roll and there is no map.
So I am going to try Classic: Burning Legion next, specifically to explore the vanilla World.
Or wait for Classic: Wrath of the Lich King, again specifically to explore the vanilla World.
I haven’t decided. Still need to finish Legion on four of my Alliance characters to complete retail before it becomes pressing.
It’s like the endless Spiderman and Superman reboots, they run out of new ideas so they just try to milk every drop from the old ones.
People wanna relive their lifes when they started from scratch ,what they dont understand is that the great times you had will never be same again . When wow started it was a new thing( or better ) for mmorpg but now its old so people gets nostalgic .
I believe the appeal comes from the design philosophy. The idea of a world where it’s important to rely on others and teamwork for success. Sadly times have changed and not just in WoW, but in society in general, building lasting friendships and communicating in gaming is rare nowadays. We all prefer to sit in our Discord lobbies with familiar friends, and are socially closed off and awkward majority of the time. I believe Classic’s appeal was returning to that human connection, but the world ain’t the same as it once was.
Not at all, and thanks for the reply. Was some insight into the appeal of Classic.
i resubbed to check out that SoM thing, i played classic back in the day, returned for battle for azeroth, (i think subbed for 2/3 of it) and i really enjoyed bfa personally but im a filthy casual.
anywho firing up classic recently just feels good. a big world to see again, the skills and character, like on hunter bullets and feeding your pet, just feels big and good. its a different feeling from retail and one i prefer. coming from wc2 and wc3 as a kid, i was a big lore fan, and classic wow is more similar to wc3 where as retail is now this weird thing that feels like a marvel movie, but vanilla does feel like i am walking around in a similar universe as wc3
but i am really liking WoD on chromie time, wish i had subbed for the expansion
The best way I see it is that it is like digging out an old console you haven’t played in years and having a bit of fun.
I thought classic would appeal more to me because I am that type of person, but I just didn’t really enjoy it the way I expected.
