I am lost and have no clue what to do

Not me!

The easiest thing to do on a fresh 70 is buy 415 ilvl BoE gear from the AH. Or wait until the next patch and get whatever gear drops then. This is what I’ve done on every alt since the latest major patch and it has set me up pretty well.

Today is the next patch. Gear should be raining from the sky.

Timewalking is a great solution for gearing up and we’re about to start TBC TW when the servers come up. The great thing about TW is because the gear is ilvl capped, your gear doesn’t really matter. You can get TW specific gear that can make a huge difference but it’s entirely optional.

In S4 this will be ilvl 467 (IIRC) gear from the dungeons and count as Heroics for the Vault so ilvl 480. Plus there’s a weekly to do 5 TW dungeons for a piece of Normal raid gear. I suspect that’ll be ilvl 493.

TBC will have Black Temple as a raid you can also do for more gear.

On top of that whatever raid is the Fated raid this week should have similar ilvl gear from LFR.

There is nothing you have to do, what are you interested in?

Whenever I’ve found myself faced with, where to start, I ask myself, what do I want most. Then what to do follows naturally.

Well id like to be able to do the end game content, but my main focus is pvp

it’s actually great that you hit right before a new season. You’ll be able to use group finder for normal/heroics when s4 hits, then transition into whatever end game you want. That’s pretty much all you need to worry about. Rep/professions/collecting etc are purely optional.

edit: just saw your main focus is pvp.

  1. just start farming random bgs for honor gear once s4 hits.
  2. also once s4 hits, keep pvp mode on and farm war crates for bloody tokens for mid-level pvp gear. You’ll also want to craft season 4 pvp gear using whatever spark s4 uses.
  3. do whatever end game pvp you want

For pvp get honor > buy honor gear from the vendor at the target dummies in Valdrakken. Upgrade honor gear over time as you grind out for that conquest to continue your epic pvp journey of greatness and glory.

Here’s exactly how I geared up my last 4 Alts in season 3.

  • hit 70 via timewalking

  • run 5-7 more dungeons for gear (the Ilvl is equivalent to heroic dungeons). This takes about 1-2 hours depending on role.

  • between queues do the intro to the emerald dream quest chain (talk to shandris in veldrakken by the inn). Takes roughly 30 min.

  • run emerald dream events like the weekly quest and do superbloom (the horn on the mini map). Can do most in 1-2 hours.

  • click on the world boss world quest icon in the emerald dream (purple icon), your quest log tracker on the right side of you’re screen will have a LFG icon next to it. Click that icon to find a group and kill the world boss. Takes 10 min.

-kill any emerald dream rares that are up while you’re in the zone. Varies, doesn’t add more than an hour.

-do a couple seeds while you’re in the zone, you’ll get a purple seed off the world boss and the weekly. Maybe 15 extra min?

-go to the AH and buy gear for any slots that are lagging behind in Ilvl and cost less than 2-4K gold each (it’s typically 3-4 slots that have lagged behind). It’s worth the money at this point to hit LFR Ilvl. 10 min.

-may need to craft 1 piece of gear to hit appropriate Ilvl (crafting takes sparks and those come at a rate of 1 every week, so 2 items a month. It’s a time gate/catch up mechanic). This takes time, few min to buy the materials and put a work order in if you have the sparks by now.

  • there is a quest in veldrakken to run 5 heroic dungeons I think, you can do that but it’s a long time commitment. Maybe 2-4 hours depending on role.

-use LFG for mythic zero dungeon (you can queue for this now). Run 1 to get your key, and maybe a piece of loot.

  • run LFR for whatever the awakened raid is. This will rotate each week and it’ll have a special icon denoting it as wakened in the group finder. Run all the wings. Takes like 4-5 hours depending on role.

  • begin running low level dungeons, maybe no higher than a 2 to get started this season while you gear up. You should look up videos on how to perform mechanics in a dungeon before going into m+. I find it helpful to focus on one dungeon a day and run it 2-3 times to get used to it after watching a guide. after a week you’ll have run all the dungeons. At this point you begin bumping up your keys to get better loot.

-next week you open your vault, which rewards gear based on your most difficult content finished, and get your most impactful piece of gear (usually a weapon, tier, or trinket).

  • Rinse and repeat the weekly stuff in emerald dream, and LFR on Tuesday. Spend the rest of the week in m+ building crests and flightstones. You can now safely start leveling your highest throughout pieces to improve performance.

-you’ll gain a catalyst charge each week this season. Save your charges u til you can get your 2 pc or 4 pc bonus. You can only upgrade LFR gear, superbloom gear, and m+ drops. It’s okay to save a charge or 2 while you wait for your vault.

Using this method, and having really good dungeon knowledge, I was able to get my Alts to ~460 Ilvl in 2 weeks after hitting 70 with less than 15 hours played each of the two weeks. I did have access to more crafts during the season. I was able to run the equivalent of a +5 this season in mostly LFR and lower gear.

Good luck!

Amazing, tyvm

Your gearing needs are dependent on what activities do you want to do, your skill as a player and whether you like challenges or just stomping things.

For me, I don’t do group activity so I only need to be geared to stomp anything in the open world. Likewise, I like to go back to older content and stomp that as well as pursuing any achievements or mogs. All this adds up to getting to about a 420 gear level.

Thank you! However, there is no way in hell I’ll do anything close to raids & mythics! Probably not even any dungeon. Lol, just can’t, and trust me, everyone involved will thank me for not even trying to join their group!

I think people misunderstand the level of anxiety these activities cause for some of us - especially if we’re mediocre players, or slow response time, or disabilities. It’s a non-starter.

Even with discord acquaintances it’s almost worse -helping someone who is slow to catch on with a disability trys the patience of a saint - (I’ve tried with a actually decent guild I was in for a year. They had internal problems and split.) But point is it’s more embarrassing to screw up continually in front of people whose respect you’re after than in front of strangers you’ll never see again.

Doing dungeons in ffxiv I can do, just not WoW. So catch-up right now is weird. If the OP is good with this advice I really wish him/her well! But short of just wildly jumping in somewhere on the map and doing side quests hoping for gear … I have to accept my choice of gameplay. And really, that’s okay. Though after all this time away I don’t know if should just ignore my quest log and plow ahead. Still have a bit of homework too to reorient myself with the game.

I understand. But remember that now dungeons are easier and mythic + is as well as they removed timers.
If i may ask what causes said anxiety and what type of disability do you have because wow players are much more accepting (outside of like ragnaros players shhhsh thats a topic for another time)
But myself im a mythic raider and push keys around 23+s i might be able to help you

Heroic dungeons and time walking are interchangeable for Ilvl loot at max level too. Forgot to mention that.

I get what hes saying, i have to play with foot pedals bc I have some motor issues after an accident when i was deployed, my reaction time is slower, im just not as effiecient, one of the main reaons i came to retail was because you can pretty much do what you want in the game solo, it may take longer and not be as efficient, but i guess it depends on what youre used to. Some versions of this game, like SoD for example, have some of the biggets try hard, gate keeping sweatlords i have ever come across in any iteration of the game. There are deff communities out there across other versions of the game that can make people feel not so welcome.

I am very appreciative of all the help here so far.

if you are fresh in quest greens, then you probably want to spam normal dungeons.

as of post maintenance today, they will award 460 gear.

check out the weekly quest giver in front of the AH in valdrakken. He might have a timewalking weekly quest. run 5 dungeons and get a piece of gear.

Do the superbloom in emerald dream. weekly that also gives a decent piece of gear.

then, spam heroics. they will give you 476.

I know that the first raid is back up. I don’t know if the LFR version launches today or what the ilevel requirement will be for it.

but hit those normal and then heroic dungeons to get going.

I would think that you are going to want to be over 460 to get into m0. those will drop 493 gear. do the world tour of 8 and you might get a piece or two. But you will definitely get a good piece in the vault next week.

I think you will likely find heroics to be pretty lively for a week or two with people coming back in or re-rolling or just trying for a few more pieces of gear.

to put 476 gear in context, my two highest M+ rated toons are both 2500 and they are in 482/483 gear. I have 6 other toons with 2k m+ ratings. they are all in 470 gear +/-. even for toons I played a lot, 476 gear is an upgrade.

and if you need some quick gold for enchants, etc. do the dragonriding world quests. they pay ~525g each and there are something like 10-12 of them across the map. you can do them on mupltiple toons regardless of ilevel.

good luck!

brooo who hurt you? anyways its not like there isnt 500 youtube videos with direct paths to how to gear. Go checkout one of my favorit youtubers, OP: SoulSoBreezey. He breaks it all down really nicely

Also, don’t focus much on performance in normal and heroic dungeons, especially at the end of the season. Tanks and heals will queue for the bags for easy gold after hitting the WQ circuit. What my group does is completely irrelevant when I’m on my mistweaver picking up bags for gold.

First priority figure out what your goal is.

Do you want to Raid?
Do you want to push High difficulty Dungeons?
Do you want to PVP?
Do you want to dabble in outdoor content and take things easy?
