Grats to your friend. Sad that you did not get it. I remember running Stratholme with someone and the barons mount dropped. Took years of farming that place, and only while running it for rep did it drop again.
Sometimes it drops the first tiem you are there. Other times it is the 1000th. Got the astral cloud serpent the first and only time I was in that raid in MOP. I wanted to get paladin mogs and instead got the mount. (I didn’t even know about that mount)
