That’s all I was trying to get at earlier, when I was saying that this is already in the game. Yes, if all you’re doing is normal raids with a bit of heroic mixed in, I agree: DPS doesn’t have a lot to do. But the challenge is absolutely out there if you’re willing to expend the time and energy to tackle it.
The top DPS parsers in mythic (aside from the ones convincing their guild to do a cheese strat on farm bosses so they can parse gold) aren’t idiots who can only push buttons that do damage – they’re very good at both the DPS portion of the job and the dance portion of the job. (Dying tanks your ranking very quickly. Even if for no other reason, top parsers want to do whatever they can to stay alive.)
I’ll also add that if your experience is mostly or entirely in normal, you probably don’t see many mechanics where one or two DPS can screw up the entire pull by standing in fire. At that level, you’re absolutely right – healers are usually the ones who have to pick up the slack.
In mythic it’s very different. When a boss is progression, even one or two deaths can end an attempt. If you’re a DPS who stands in fire a lot you’re going to be on the bench very quickly no matter how high you burst in the 90 seconds you’re alive.
