You can do this already. It’s called right click then afk and it was the original gameplay of most WoW specs.

Now that I examined closer, you are correct. Ah well. At least we tried.
This dude knows what’s up.
So many people have tried to twist and contort things that I have said, to prove that I am somehow “wrong” when it is futile because it is all just an opinion anyhow.
My point has been this entire time, that IMO there should be more specs based primarily on bow/gun/crossbow dmg. There is only MM and BM Dark ranger. That’s only 1.5 really. Daggers has more specs than archery/gunning, and this is a fantasy MMO. How does that make sense?
By comparison, how many melee specs are there? How many caster specs are there?
IMO, there should at LEAST be two bow/gun specs. One based more on offensive firepower, and the other based more on defense survivability and CCs.
More options, not less people. That is what this is about.
What I would like is an option for Surv tree or via hero talents for those that would like the old range surv could take a path via the spec tree or hero talents to be a range dot spec like in the past instead of legion on melee.
Might not be the meta spec but not everyone plays top end world first content . To be honest most players don’t seeing how they are leaning more towards open world content .
Personally I would rather not have my main toon (my BM hunter) suddenly changed because someone’s mad it doesn’t play exactly like MM hunter. If I wanted to play MM hunter I’d go play one, I like BM’s pets.
ETA: also yeah I’d love to be able to glyph the hero talent pets to pets from my stable, tbh.
Just imagine being one of the OG SV hunters when they changed it to melee. ![]()
Dire stable glyph should fix this.
I have a bunch of rare pets just for my stable lol.
The literal only reason i dont play survival pack leader or bm in general is the over reliance on pets, most of which completely throws out whatever fantasy ur going with because it pulls from ur stable AND itll just start throwing in random animals. Im absolutely good on that nonsense. I like demo and the whole summoning stuff, all i summon match my fantasy im going for, even diabolist is amazing with its extra summons. My thing is pack leader just puts stuff on the battlefield that doesn’t match me at all. Like if im a dark iron dwarf, why am i summoning random bears. Birds, or whatever is in the packleader tree? It just feels and looks too off. Also the literal counter to those hero specs/specs is 1 aoe fear and you are locked out of ur main dmg, its like disarming a warrior lol. Lord help you if they disarm and fear your pets, now ur a pinata with 0 passive dmg
Atleast with demo if my summons arent doing dmg i can still keep pumping and just fel domination a new felguard if i need to
Honestly I really don’t like Blizzard’s concept of what Marksman is. I miss Chimeara Shot and I’m not too big on how Explosive Shot is a part of some of MM’s talents.
It became less sniper theme and more… whatever the hell it us these days. If there was a game where I would go for the sniper fantasy theme it wouldn’t be WoW.
I agree that the melee version of Survival was a terrible idea, at least imo. As it stands, it would take a miracle of some kind to get RSV Hunter back and then in whatever form it might take in a modernized/updated form. That’s life, I guess.
Ya i really dislike having to be in melee range, especially when im doing some Wildfire B(not sure if i can say that word here) build
Id rather have my singular pet do all the hard hitting stuff
Um, beast was a tree in vanilla and was always about the pet. In fact, the pet had a tree. And… beasts damage is based off ranged weapon damage. I am not sure the ask here. If you don’t like the pet, don’t play it. The current meta is marks. So, I am not sure what you are saying here.
I mean the current trees are utter garbage and math and I would love to do away with them, but a beast hunter not using beast damage?
It’s always amazing when others post about how this spec should be this or I want it my way.
So time for a history of Hunter class. See back in the early days of WoW there was trees and each one was focused on an area of Hunters. Marksmanship was about empowering you range abilities. Then there was BM that main focus was pets and strengthening them. While Survival was about your melee abilities and traps, and in fact it was going to be a melee spec with its final ability being Lacerate.
Now the thing with Lacerate was it scaled poorly and did abysmal damage, so Blizzard just took out the ability in patch 1.7 and gave it Wyvern Sting.
So you had tree specs that you would mix points between, a range focused, a pet focused, and a melee and traps focused.
All Blizzard has done is gone back to the original design that was Hunters and brought it back.
Marksmanship identity is ranged abilities. Beastmastery is focused the bond between you and your pets. While Survival is about focusing on melee combat.
I agree here. I think the OPs scattered post kind of wants variety. Where you can choose the abilities. A melee pet combo. A ranged trap combo.
I hate the trees just being meta math. I would also like options. Where the op is correct is you wore both melee and ranged weapons, so you could do either at any time.
The way things are now, you have to have an aoe and single target build, that is annoying.
The ‘original formula’ always included a pet and even in Classic the pets did substantial damage and had a lot of unique benefits and abilities. It was the intended style for the class.
Hunters are not archers. MM is as close as we get to that and for me MM is a lot less fun, I much prefer BM. If you want a more purely ranged spec I’d approve of Survival being turned into an entirely ranged spec that could, indeed, be called Archer. I’ve talked about it before; how the talent build could be refined to have something like the Japanese mounted archer who draws on spirituality to do their thing.
I think he is looking for variety instead of the hard math meta tree. I think we are focusing on his fallacy of the pet not being part of the hunter. Remember, the hunter wore both melee and ranged weapons in vanilla. And I do really miss one hand axes.
Well, if you think about it, the classes in Vanilla had all sorts of stuff going on that was removed. Warriors used guns or throwing knives for example.
That made me think of slings. Slings were a weapon used in ancient times (one biblical character took out a giant with one, as I recall). We need slings in the game I reckon ![]()
I think some people are focusing on that, and that includes the Blizzard team. Otherwise we wouldn’t have a spec that pretty well wiped pets from gameplay. Which I still think sucks, personally.
The ask here is that either Marksmanship always be better than the other two specs, or the other two specs be Marksmanship too but with different tuning so that whichever one is better, it plays the same.
It’s a weird ask.
At the end of the day, IMO, a fantasy genre game like WoW (which is based on LoTR to a large degree, like Warhammer is) - a game like that should have an archer/ranger/sniper class. And we only have 1 spec that really fulfills that. This is my gripe.
You guys complaining about changing BM or SV? Ok, leave those two the same. Give us a whole new class then that is based on archery and gunning.
Blizzard gave melee Hunters a dead zone to balance that we could melee and use range. Even if melee was Hunters strength the designers thought it was unfair to others classes. So we had 5 to 8 yard space we couldn’t use range abilities that way melee classes could move closer without being hit.
Blizzard reworked Hunters in 2.3 to be able to shift instantly to be more fluid in thier play flow.
Hunters were not removed from melee until 5.0.4 to be a range only class. Survival is a call back to classic Hunters when we could melee or use range.
