The issue is with the pets. There is something wrong with their response system. I played the hell out of hunter back in vanilla and did the pvp grind on this character. I did all sorts of farming and exploiting, yada yada yada, and can tell you that pets are screwed up right now.
Prime example that I noticed very quickly: Turn off all pet abilities except for growl and leave it on autocast. Have the talent for +30% outdoor pet speed. Macro serpent sting with /petattack. Stand at max range and hit the macro. Your pet will make it to the mob, growl within a second and it will take another 1-3 seconds for the mob to snap to the pet. Almost EVERY time, the mob will make it inside your deadzone.
I think I probably farmed at least a couple hundred hours or more on my hunter during vanilla and donât remember this ever being an issue. I rarely had to use concussive shot on mobs unless they were fast mobs or sprint mobs. This much I definitely remember for sure.
I think that the AI for the pets is lagging out when you use your macros to get out of combat and itâs not dropping you quick enough to get the trap off.

Has there been any word from Blizzard about this? Curious if anyone reported it/talked to a GM or anything.
Feig. Death is working as intended. Pet passive before feign death and you can trap. Feign death while pet isnt on passive and youll be in combat, aggro will just transfer. There is nothing to fix. Hunter main and classic hunter playstyle lover. Anyone whos disagreeing hasnt played vanilla hunter!

Confirmed.
I thought this was very weird and figured it was lack of a memory.
Yeah at first I thought it was too, but then I realized that thereâs no way in hell I would have put up with something like that as an angsty teen lolâŚ
Iâm sure they will fix it if people keep asking for it.
The ONLY way FD/Trap works is with this macro,(and ONLY in PVE) spammed FAST. in Vanilla I used 2 keybinds to easily fd/trap on the move.
Classic FD is a little different, there is no denying it.
Currently you need to stop all movement for .5 seconds, Stop pet from attacking ANYTHING (not just what you want to trap), and hope that nothing hits you in the milliseconds between when you FD and drop the trap, or it wont work.
The Macro is this
/cast Feign Death
/Cast Pet Passive
/Cast Freeze Trap
As Far as the GROWL issue, that is a major problem too, all auto attacks from pet on retail are delayed, the fix is to trigger your pet attacks and growl with a macro or keybind, default growl would be Control-5 or so, my workaround is to use a pig with Charge, and Tap Growl during the 1sec stun.
You may also notice Bite and Claw give better dps when used manually. I macro pet attacks to every spell, that works.
Got to admit i sniggered reading the OP.
/cough
What i meanât to say was "Aw, thatâs too bad.
I have to agree. Not only does FD/Trap not work, but so far, I have not had FD work at all. My hunter did not fall down or anything, just stopped attacking and stood thereâŚbeing beat on. I thought I fumble fingered it and hit the wrong button or something until I checked and saw the FD cool down had been activated.
So as far as I can tell, all feign death does is /stopattack.
I noticed if you have right click held down at all while doing FD it will not work. Wonât show the animation or drop aggro / combat.

Thereâs a few workarounds to make it more reliable in PvE, but it still doesnât really work in PvP. You never drop combat at all - so melee will just eat you alive. The only thing you can do is expend Scatter Shot to stop them from immediately putting you in combat.
Itâs turning your character, so theoretically it immediately cancels FD.
It should not require you to remain perfectly stationary for .5 seconds.
That seems to be the exact time you need to be stationary for FD to take you out of combat, in addion, if you are hit by an attack between the time you FD out of combat and Drop your trap, it puts you instantly back into combat, so the trap never drops. No macro was needed, hitting both keybinds in rapid succession was fine, even doing it slowly was fine, you could be hit in FD and that would not put you into combat.
An Example of how it used to work.
We are engaged in world pvp,a Warrior and a Priest 2 levels lower attack me at the same time, in vanilla, i would have been able to send pet to attack priest, starting pushback on thier cast, Wing Clip (to get warrior to use their PVP trinket) FD/Trap the Warrior (while pet continued to attack priest).
Now the Warrior is safely contained for a few moments so I RUN for range, then burst down the priest before they can heal, Send pet to attack the warrior, keep strafing for range while firing concussive shot to slow, kite til dead.
WITHOUT FD, this is what happens , Hunter gets attacked, While trying to FD both of the targets laugh at you, no trap happens and you die.

You donât get Feign Death until 32, thatâs why beta didnât catch it. (beta was just to 30, correct?)
You get feign at 30 and beta was to 40.
Doesnât change anything though. Hunter was always Trash in pvp. Making the worst pvp class worse doesnât really matter in the scheme of things.
I used it all day in Hillsbrad yesterday, worked fine but I agree there could be an issue Iâm not experiencing too many people are having a problem for it to just be failed execution.
This is the exact same macro I use and it hasnât worked for me a single time.
