I always hated the name Every Man for Himself because it just sounds cowardly. I always thought something with will in the name would be better, since Will of the Forsaken does the same thing, but with different CC effects.
Oh Jesus, like that gif involving someone throwing the Christmas Tree at another person. That’d be hilarious.
It will always just be Human Trinket.
But it is an odd change. Who asked for this?
I really don’t think this is an example of that. This doesn’t seem to be an example of language sanitization; the connotation is very clearly being changed here. “Every Man for Himself” comes across as self-centered. “The Will to Survive” maintains the same sense of endurance while removing any hint of selfishness.
On this, however, I will agree with. It still bothers me greatly. They also removed it from Lord Godfrey, and I imagine Riko will be next.
Not a surprise on this one. I find it super disgusting that Riko and Godfrey are no doubt next on the chopping block.
I say rename to “white privilege”
Every man for himself gives the impression of abandoning the ones you care about so you can save your but. The will to survive is less selfish.
Yes, I understand that. I still think it’s dumb though. We never cared about it before, so I don’t understand why we’re suddenly changing an iconic ability now.
The word “man” is oppressive to women.
It is
I don’t know, maybe it has to do with the new more inclusive character customization. Maybe changing it as a symbolic gesture, Idk and don’t really care either.
Um…
So…
I am not saying “we” as in the sense of we the players. I’m saying Blizzard has never once made some kind of comment involving this change before in the entire ten years that the ability was around prior.
So you’re saying “we” as in Blizzard?
Oh Jesus, it’s a phrase. Kinda like how I said earlier: “What? Are we gonna rename man kind now?” I don’t mean “we” as an actual entity. I am saying, purely objectively, that Blizzard has never once made a comment prior.
I’m sure some people are gonna try to make this a political thing.
But the reality is, every man of for themselves did not match the new Human narrative and theme Blizzards wants to portray.
Every Man for Themselves sounds cowardly and weak.
The Will to Survive matches up with the heroic theme.
That’s why
It never made sense. Humans as a whole were always portrayed as brave in WoW, not cowardly.
plus it’s also much more lore friendly
on the broken isles Varian didn’t jump off the skyship because he was trying to save himself, he didnt tell Genn “every man for themselves”, he jumped onto the demon construct because his sacrifice saved the other’s.
in ice crown Tirion didnt break out of his icey prison for himself, he did it to save other’s from Arthas’ tyranny, he fought for their will to survive
“every man for himself” just sounds selfish and cowardly when thats the exact opposite of WoW lore
It’s an idiom, and one of its uses described doing everything you can to protect/save yourself in a struggle against competition. Connotations of cowardice and fleeing without helping others are context dependent.
Yes it is, it refers to humans as a whole instead of whatever else you could think of. Be wrong.
I think it made sense back when stormwind didn’t pay the people who rebuilt it, yeah, and you can say that was onyxia, you can’t say anything about people following that directive willingly.
Maybe back when they tried to purge some people too, I dunno. I would not focus on the blue color and the big stone buildings all that much.
