Hey there Onius,
Thank you for reporting this sudden increase to your World latency. ‘World’ latency is a reference to the connection to our servers that transmits large chunks of data… combat, data from the people around you (specs, gear, enchants, etc.), NPCs, mobs, casting, professions, etc. Going into a highly populated zone (like a capital city) will drastically increase the amount of data being sent over this connection and will raise the reported latency.
‘Home’ refers to your connection to your realm server. This connection sends chat data, auction house stuff, guild chat and info, some addon data, and various other data. It is a pretty slim connection in terms of bandwidth requirements.
When we find that World latency is spiking or steadily raised, it’s typically related to a broken data gathering addon, but it can also be caused by a legitimate connection issue. Try resetting your User Interface to default, and if that has no impact, let’s have you run a ‘WinMTR’ network test while a disconnect occurs in-game so that we can further investigate potential network-related issues between your computer and the game server. Here are the instructions:
- Download the tool from this page
- Enter the game IP into the “host” field. The IP address for our games are listed on the WinMTR instructions page
- Start the test and play the game for at least 15 minutes. Make sure the high latency is occurring while the WinMTR test is running.
- After recording the problem data, click “export text” and save the WinMTR file in an easy to find location.
- Once you have that made, open the file. You’ll need to copy and paste the contents of the Text document into the post, and put four Tilde (~) marks above the WinMTR. It’ll look like this:
