Hello and forgive me if Im wrong but this just seemed very strange to me. I was doing Timewalking dungeons last night on my 77 Mage when I noticed another mage in the group absolutely killing me in DPS. Not to mention they were only level 57 when they started queing with us. Im not sure how the person was able to be in the same group as us being they were so low level not to mention they were wearing heirlooms that also appeared to show they were level 69? I did equip myself with heirlooms and checked, mine were reading correctly and also someone else in the group had a few heirlooms that were also reading the appropriate level. Again, forgive me if Im wrong but please see the attached images. Look down at the bottom right of some of the screen shots, you will see the are level 57, unless arcrane was mad buffed they wiped the floor with everyone in DPS. Most of my screenshots didnt show the huge bursts in dps but if someone were to look into this, they will see exacltly what i am talking about. Also pay attention to the heirlooms I screenshotted that they are wearing. If I am wrong about something please let me know and I’ll delete this immediately or just delete it but I hope someone sees what I am talking about. Please add the https : // in front of them to view. I swear this is not malicious.
They were leveling like crazy…
It’s not an exploit or anything. Scaling is just super funky.

Damage output is scaled based on the difference between their item level and the baseline for their character’s level. As you level up, you become weaker until you replace your gear with new pieces.
So everyone else should be able to put on heirlooms and mow down mobs 20 levels higher and fast level just like this person was doing? Anytime Ive ever tried going up against mobs even 10 levels higher, Id get my butt whooped. I still dont see how someone puts on heirlooms, the heirlooms item level increase to 20 levels higher and do that. Something smells and its not the pastures of Thunder Bluff. I would like to see someone duplicate this if this is in fact normal and post it here.
the mobs aren’t 20 levels higher than them
the mobs scale to your level
just wait until you see a level 11 fury warrior listing as a tank and doing 95% of the damage

Ok, now Im starting to understand. Ive been gone for quite awhile so theres tons of new stuff. Why Iam asking and not just point a finger. I guess i’ll just have to see for myself. Usually when Ive done dungeons, people are around the same level. Not that huge of a level difference. I still dont get why their heirlooms are max level if they are only level 57? Ok, I guess one thing at a time. Im gonna find a few people and que up to see how this works. I really do appreciate everyones input.
It’s displaying the heirloom level based on your level as you’re inspecting them. What you see and what they see are going to be different.
Here’s as a proof of concept. Left is viewing from a level 13 alt, right is level 80. So the item’s levels shown in the tooltip are based on the viewer.

Yeah mate, timewalking is a little different to the standard dungeons that you might be used to if you are a returning player. Any character from lvl 11+ can join a Timewalking dungeon and the level of the enemies are scaled down to the level of the character that you are playing. Lvl 80’s will be attacking lvl 80 mobs with millions of health where as a lvl 11 would be hitting lvl 11 mobs with a fraction of the health.
I have a lvl 11 Twink that i take through them every now and then and absolutely obliterate the dungeon. The scaling its wonky.

Thank you so much for explaining this. I want everyone to know I did try to ask in game in the cities but the channels on my realm are dead and no one responds anymore. It was never my intent to cause trouble for anyone, just get a clear understanding what was happening.
I appreciate everyone taking the time to explain all of this. It makes perfect sense now. Ive been gone for a few years after suffering a stroke and Ive just been working myself back into it. Im only 45 so dont ever think your too young. Was the scariest moment of my whole life.
Again, much appreciation to everyone here for taking the time. I really do appreciate it.
