They could simply speed up the process instead of squishing levels though. Plus, if they actually do a level squish, they'd have to re-scale everything in the world from zones to dungeons and raids.
They have already done this and can easily do so again.
Sure, the idea of squishing the level sounds weird and would definitely take some adjusting but if people honestly can't see the harm it does for newer players they aren't looking at this with open minds.
I would never start playing a game if I had to lvl 200+ levels, doesn't matter how easy they make it. It's daunting from any outside source, I think it's obvious there will be one eventually.
I'm tired of this 'won't someone think of the children' new player argument.
There's free boosts for new players.
Even if there weren't you don't alienate existing players in the off chance that it could make the game more appealing to the four people who haven't already tried WoW

New players aside, most players already shared their dislike in leveling. Simply raising the number every other year isn't helping either.
I really donât care about âlevelsâ donât care if Max is 70, 90, 130 or 150, what I do care about is the lack of reward/excitement in leveling, I know they say the old talent trees were hard to balance but they were ACTUALLY FUN, leveling and hitting max in both legion and BFA is joyless, no points to spend, barely any new skills to learn in legion and none in BFA, leveling up a dark iron dwarf recently Iâve noticed how incredibly dull it is, you get a new talent once in a blue moon and itâs just boring, Iâd much rather get a talent point to spend each level... even if that talent point gives me 1% increased damage to fire spells when spent.
lvl squish means you shaft some ppl who spent tiem leveling.
it would not be enjoyed.
ilvl squishing is ok as it doesnt make any effort a person does go down the drain.
Maybe once we hit level 200 as level cap we should consider reducing the levels back down to 100... but thats what 16 years or so away.
Why are players asking for a level squish instead of asking Blizzard to maybe just add back in some of the abilities they've been cutting for the past 10 years?
Are you all so easily manipulated?
"Ion wants feedback on a level squish"
Instead of being so gullible to suggestion, if you're going to say that having abilities and skills makes levels feel significant maybe, I don't know, ask for more abilities?
More cutting is just the easiest and laziest solution on Blizzard's part and you're all for it because triple digit numbers are too big.

That's weird. It worked fine before scaling.
My concern isn't so much a matter of "would it fix leveling?" as much as it is a question of "would it only address a symptom of a much larger issue?" Lots of people are complaining about a number of different issues. So let's say that a lvl squish was the best course of action to fix leveling. That doesn't mean that the new leveling system would work within the context of the rest of the game. It could very well be that leaving the system as is, is the best course of action and that the other systems that are tied to leveling need to change. I know Ion said he was interested in hearing feedback on the issue, but unless we know what Blizzard is willing to do, it's difficult to give targeted feedback.
I'd say that the fact that Ion said more needed to be done to leveling and suddenly these threads start popping up looking like the work of a PR outsourcing company... Coincidence? I think not.
They broke so many things when they "fixed" leveling with level scaling. The stuff they broke is still broken. Now they can break the rest of the game and leave ALL that broken crap unfinished and unfixed forever.

Seems like a bit of a waste of time to me, I'd much rather see time and energy put into finishing what appeared to be launch features of BFA like Kul Tiran and Zandalari allied races (1.5? Seriously? Crikey you could have at least given them to me for christmas!)

Streag I would rather they just try their hand at making a new MMO and abandoning WoW. It's so old, I feel like in the longer term is would be a lot easier to build something new then trying to keep this game up to date.
Me too. I think we should finish with Return of the Lich King next expansion and go in to maintenance mode. Make an incredible homage to Wrath and move the whole team to a new next gen project.

From my observation, the majority of complaints about leveling was after 7.3.5 when scaling was introduced in older content. I don't think the scaling was the problem though. It felt like they did everything in their power to make leveling take longer than it did before. They completely ruined RaF, made dungeon leveling meaningless by buffing the hp of mobs and reducing xp gain from them, and reducing the power of heirlooms.

This number of levels business is total nonsense. I play a game where there are only 75 levels but the average person takes 5 plus years to reach that and that is playing pretty much daily.
It isn't the number of levels that is the issue - it is how fast you can progress through them.
I would not care at all, honestly. I don't care what level I am, it's all relative to what max level is. Like if max level is 120 or 90, I don't care. I work towards it, and reach it. The number itself has no meaning to me.
I could see it going up to level 200 and then stopping there.
Stop squishing. Stop taking things away. Fill out what is there now. More talents, dynamic new skills, connect the disconnected bits and pieces. Make the game engaging and FUN to play throughout. The game doesnât have to âbeginâ at level cap, as people are so fond of stating.

I actually got a ban from here suggesting this very thing, so be careful. Since there are multiple things tied to level, it would make it very hard to do a level squish. I think we are better off making leveling faster BUT keeping the scaling in the old world.
My goal is to be level 200 one day. Heck, I'd even go for 500 if WoW lasts that long.
while I'd like a sensible lvl squish, I'm not sure I trust blizzard to handle it well.
it also raises the question on when we could expect the next one? and the next?
I think a level squish is a wonderful idea.
They already are running out of ways to make us feel like leveling. Back in Vanilla we usually got SOMETHING every level to look forward to. Now we can go 10 levels without a new ability at all.
A level squish would fix that
I wouldn't mind a level squish
