How would a new player know that mythic dungeons exist?

I think an obvious answer would be, other players. I think most people go into an MMO with the expectation of player interaction.

if they are gearing up through delves and heroics they will know about the vault, and the vault straight up tells you about mythics.

Curiosity. I would say that there would be very little chance for a new player to not at least hear about mythics. My only problem I had as a returning player, that knew nothing of them, was the poor learning curve. They offer no way to practice and learn as you try to go up in difficulty. The only thing I can see that would help that is remove the timer from lower keys and move to a death counter. Promote a slower environment so people have a good opportunity to learn.

Isnt there a literal screen tip that says "players can access mythic difficulty " or something?

You would have trouble believing how most people learned about Molten Core.

hint: It wasn’t from a news article or any source of official info.

You saw someone in a FULL, MATCHING SET OF GEAR and wondered “wtf IS THAT??!

…and… the rest answers itself. Assuming you have at least four brain cells.

Probably the same way I discovered most content…
after looking up where you get a mount or pretty transmog you saw someone else with.

By looking in dungeon journel and seeing the mythic section

they can’t just make this game assuming everyone is stupid.

Pick up the weekly for either heroic or mythic dungeons completed. Open the great vault page and see how to upgrade their dungeon slots.

But mostly it’s word of mouth. As were most things we all learned when we were new. From addons to how lockouts work.

This is doable without ever touching any mythic or mythic+ content. Case in point is the T10 set I’ll never take off, because it was peak Shaman armor design, and Blizzard has never, and likely will never top it. Any time I get an upgrade, I immediately go to the nearest transmogrifier to get its pixels replaced by better ones.

Without my in-game association of like-minded individuals back in TBC, I likely wouldn’t still be playing this game. Those cohorts of players are likely where a lot of the mentoring and dissemination of information about the game come from, second to your wowhead, thottbot, icy veins, and their ilk. I’ve seen maybe one or two players with the “Guide” hat on in the two months I’ve been back. Even took me awhile to recognize that’s what that icon was.

A completely new player gets dropped into the deep end of the ocean that is WoW at this point. There are too many bells and whistles vying for the player’s attention (arguably too many gold bordered tooltips), too many nudges to branch out your gameplay when you still don’t know the controls, when you still don’t know that the UI can be customized. All you have is this giant game world with 20 years of baggage, and you’re left to sort through it seemingly alone. Players likely wouldn’t even realize that resources such as wowhead exist. The ones that want to continue past their confusion head over to Google or their favorite search engine. If they’re an AI bro, they waste energy on ChatGPT and its clones. The ones for which frustration rises and becomes too much, they quit. You hear that same story repeat a bunch, even on these forums.

The social aspect of the game is much more muted than it was 12 years ago. Expecting players to learn about content from chat in game is starting to become obsolete. Starting areas are largely devoid of players (I haven’t tried exile’s reach). Early major cities (Orgrimmar, Stormwind) are ghost towns compared to Wrath/Cata days. Even if you get in a group, there’s no chat except for “gg” at the end of a run. No one explains fights or mechanics. Blizzard adding a full-screen vignette when you’re standing in an environmental effect was a great change. It’s clearer that you’re standing in bad.

Oh, and I just remembered I got forced into the “New player chat” when I came back from my 12-year hiatus despite thousands of hours of /played. There were precisely 0 messages that showed up in that chat for the entire time I leveled (32 to 70).

TL:DR, new players likely won’t find out about M+ if their frustration level rises too high before reaching max level. If they do reach max level, then outside resources, namely search engines, will lead them to it.

The adventure guide… I don’t think mythic dungeons are exactly a secret…

As long as you admit you’re creating a hyper-focused, singular example, all the while ignoring the fact there are tons of place where people congregate and you’re exposed to “other things.” Among them being: other gear sets/ M+.

Bottom line is that if you’re interested in that kind of content, you’ll find it. It’s not some big flipping mystery like the OP is trying to pretend that’s happening.

All they have to do is open the group finder and explore the drop-down boxes. Idk about you, but I found the game exciting when I didn’t know everything about it.

Not necessarily that focused, or that singular. A scroll through the sets tab of appearances pretty much shows the vast majority of sets in the game aren’t derived from running mythic content. Personal opinion, but I’m not all that impressed with sets beyond Wrath for the majority of classes. Though, your point does still stand that inspecting someone can lead to them wondering what “mythic” on armor means.

I agree with this post. Queuing and LFG for mythics is like going back to the 2000s when WoW resources were websites like Thottbot. Its dumb.

Well, if you want a good experience, you should “bother people” to make friends, join a guild, and run stuff together. Usually in Discord so you can actually help with call outs; “stack”, “run”, or “catch that interrupt”. Then celebrate together when yall achieve a goal.

This game can be played solo, but it was designed to be played with others.

Posts like this make me appreciate games like kingdom come deliverance all the more since it doesn’t hold your hand.

There are tutorials on the basics, but you have to figure a lot out on your own.

Wow comparison. Exploring the ui. Shocked pikachu face dungeon difficulty selector? Using lfg and going to the premade dungeon tab… upgrading your gear past a certain point. Oh i need this new currency. Mouse over it… mythics?!

And because its a social game. /1 or /2 “hey guys I’m new. What is next after heroic dungeons?”

The adventurer guide.

Aside from visiting NPCs, all the menus, and exploring around. One might ask in General Chat what there is to do at max level and let the channel know you’re new. Unfortunately you’ll get some trolls that are toxic, but kind souls will suggest you raid, do mythic dungeons, etc.

Some might point you to WoWhead and honestly, asking during leveling where to learn what specs are best for leveling etc might guide you to WoWhead and the class guides there and will discover things like Mplus due to every class guide offering best specs for it.

In an MMO, always best to ask the other players for advice. Can also engage in the forums as well to find out what to do. Every MMO has a website for it with forums for the player community to ask questions and relay strategy or report bugs. After all, purchasing the game might warrant checking this site out while venturing to other fan sites.

Sure, it’s not explained well in the game. The game pretends only normal dungeons and raids exist sometimes and quests might guide you to do them. As you look in the group finders, will see that harder difficulties exist and some quests even have you engage in harder content to get the feet wet.

Weekly vault def mentions what harder content you should do to get better loot as you improve the ilvl. Veteran players will know they can skip many levels of content while new players might want to learn their class better and take it slow and progress through each difficulty.

Menu exploration will def lead you to discover mythic plus dungeon difficulty either through custom groups and/or loot tables for dungeons and the panda npc next to timeways if one explores the major capital city can tell you what keystones are and give you for first one.
