How to target and spread rakes effectively in mobs?

I’m trying to get into Feral Druid, and one thing I’m still getting used to is spreading Rake across a pack of mobs.

Sometimes I try to basically “circle” around the pack while spamming Rake, hoping that Action Targeting will automatically pick different mobs in melee range as I move around. While doing this, I try to keep myself facing towards the centre of the pack so that most of the mobs are generally in front of me.

But sometimes it feels like it just… doesn’t work? :frowning:

I’m still pretty new to melee and Feral in general, so it could just be that I’m accidentally moving out of melee range while staring at my cooldown bars lol.

But in general, is this how Action Targeting is supposed to work? Should I be able to circle around a pack and spam Rake, with Action Targeting helping me switch between nearby mobs and spread Rake around? Or is there something about how Action Targeting selects targets that makes this unreliable?

no idea which is your druid so i recommend you to take the talent Double-Clawed Rake and enable the option to see the DoTs above the health bar on the enemies(with default UI or addons like Plater Nameplates), with that you just press Rake on any enemy without rake and it applies automatically to another near enemy

Its reliable but if you have a target hard selected it wont auto switch. Alternatively you can tab target to ensure you dont accidentally double up on applications.

My god. This is the kind of insight I can only find on the forums. Youve doubled my raking efficiency!
