Hey folks, just quickly writing a very brief guide on how to properly use OBR. This is by no means definitive; it is just my opinion on how it should be used in its current iteration. So by all means, if you prefer to use OBR differently, then that’s your call. Do what works for you.
First things first, move the OBR button from your abilities window (where, on the default UI, it appears in the top right corner above your class abilities) and place it somewhere on your action bar where you can easily press it. You can also bind it to your mouse wheel, although I prefer not to do so for reasons I’ll cover at the end.
Then, once you have it on your action bar and have it keybound, go back into your abilities menu, and this time hover your cursor over the OBR button. If you’re using the default UI, a list should appear showing you every single ability that OBR will use based on your class, spec, and talent choices. It will NOT include every ability. So, for example, on a Fury Warrior, it will use Bladestorm and Thunderous Roar, but it will not use Avatar or Recklessness. Make note of these abilities, and for the most part you can remove those abilities from your action bar (but use your own judgement here based on how you play).
Once you’ve removed the redundant abilities, move the non-OBR abilities you use to more easily accessible buttons that are now free because your OBR abilities aren’t taking up that space.
Go and practice and see how it plays. Use your abilities the same way you normally would, using your own judgement. Mix in your non-OBR abilities when you feel it’s necessary. Job done.
Final Note on Mouse Wheel Binding.
While some people may prefer to use mouse wheel binding for OBR (and there is nothing wrong with that if that is what you prefer), I prefer not to use it for one simple reason: resource drain.
By manually pressing a button and not spamming the key, which is what you would do with a mouse wheel scroll, you should effectively never run out of your class resource or redundantly cast abilities. This will help if you feel you need/should cast a non-OBR ability, as if you’re spamming, you can find yourself resource-drained (I found this to be true especially on Death Knights; mouse wheel scrolling caused me to run out of runes, and then OBR abilities couldn’t be cast)
Remember, though, this is entirely up to you and what you’re happy with. So if you do prefer mouse wheel scrolling OBR for convenience, then feel free. These are just my preferences.
Have a nice day.
