How to improve MC clear times

Honestly, 2 hours is fine for a casual guild. Don’t push too hard to get it lower at the expense of driving your healers nuts.

There is trash you can skip, and if you get through loot distribution faster you can maybe knock another 30 mins off… But what’s the point? If things are getting done, people are having fun, then there’s no real need to push too hard.

It will get even faster as people get gear from BWL…

Pull moar trash. And faster.

Don’t worry about healers having full mana. If the mages are providing water then their is no cost to them. If over half your healers have over half mana you can chain pull trash as they take turns drinking. If you have been clearing for a while this shouldn’t be a problem. Also get in the habit of pulling the patrolling mobs when they come by instead of avoiding them. If you can down rag in 2 minutes you can grab that extra corehound before he runs off into the nether.

MC trash is pretty easy on your healers overall unless they are just burning mana out of boredom. Let your healers know it is okay to not heal every pull and just stagger heals. Our healers got so bored that they were asking out tanks to take off pieces of armor to make it interesting.

Another thing that helps speed things up is just tanking the rock elementals in the fire packs instead of banishing. Easily shaves 30-60 seconds per pull since you can control the stuns right from the beginning.

Recent evidence shows nightfall is currently not worth it for the current content, even in a caster-heavy raid.

Possibly worthwhile later on when casters get stronger, but as of now, you’re looking at a very disappointing 30-50 DPS increase for the whole raid: not for each caster, but to the raid’s DPS as a whole.

You would be better off having nightfall swingers wield actual DPS weapons, regardless of class.

What evidence? Low proc rate? Is it bugged?

tl;dr: proc rate in Classic is only 1ppm, instead of 2 as was inferred from old wowhead/thottbot comments.

All that said, again, it’s still probably worth making 1-3 for the long term. We all know casters get absurdly powerful towards the end of vanilla content. It’s just that, as of now, it either breaks even or is inferior to if the shaman or whatever were going for for personal DPS.

  1. Pull trash faster, BUT don’t overpull your throughput - wipes will elongate your run more than slowing down a little on pulls.

  2. Adjust your loot system so you dole out loot at the end (excluding major upgrades that will immediately be equip and improve throughput). My guild has a spreadsheet with all the raiders and all the drops, the class officer (we use melee, caster, healers with collaboration between casters and healers) will meet with their raiders before raid and we discuss all the drops and who gets what well before the raid. Every drop in BWL was assigned a week before release. Loot is held to the end in 85% of cases, then passed out afterwards.

  3. Dont wipe! I know its obvious, but wiping on bosses or trash adds a lot of time. If you are wiping, adjust pulls or boss strategies to avoid it.

  4. More optional, but get some engineers and sappers. I make a metric crepe-ton of sapper for raids and nuke everything I can.

Also remember, run time will improve with time and practice - dont try and rush things since it could end up elongating the run. Make gradual improvements as possible to bring it down.

Clear time is ALLLLLL about healer mana efficiency and being able to just keep pulling.

Your DPS with mana don’t matter u can pull without them, although if they’re whining tell them to shut up and buy some consumes.

Just force your healers to bring consumes and down rank. Can shave an hour easy doing that if u kill before submerge. That’s wehre almost all your time is guaranteed.

Loot you need to assign to one guy and have him do his thing as u go

It sounds like your tanks are not pulling fast enough. Perhaps this is because your healers are using their mana inefficiently but more often this is because the tanks are just pulling at the pace that they’re used to when you first started doing MC and are being more cautious than necessary. I would encourage your tanks to be chain pulling packs. i.e.: while one tank is tanking a single mob, another tank is pulling another mob.

pull faster.
and make people start pulling again after a boss.

you lose 5 minutes standing around after a boss… 10 bosses? 50 minutes.

Kill boss. /drink
pull more trash.
have the ML deal with giving out loot. normally we have someone assigned to loot only.

Pull trash faster and don’t worry about mana unless they all say to stop. It’s ok for people to sit back and drink while more trash is being pulled. Mage water is free they can drink a bit between each trash pull.

Before a boss is the time to take one min and let everyone get full mana. Everyone should already know each fight, no need to spend 10 min telling healers what to do or where dps needs to stand. Also don’t wait on them either. Do your quick speech for the boss and do a 30s countdown timer.

Master loot works from a far distance. Either take it all and give out after rag, or master looter stays back and figures out loot while raid is running to next boss.

lots of good points. cant wait to try again ty everyone

Learning to sit and drink while the tank is beating on a mob is really hard to do, but it makes things so much faster.

I can see if group 2 can also use some of these tips. We could use some speed too as we are fine up to Garr then slow way down after him.

Roll alliance. Their racials are way better for PvE.

As a hunter, you dont really want to focus on dpsing trash, ideally your job is making pulls before the current trash is almost dead. Also ensuring youre not waiting around on pathing mobs.

Healers and casters should be drinking when they can/need (all the healers shouldnt need to drink at the same time).

Using sapper consumes is a big help for lots of larger trash pulls & bosses.

Obviously reducing wipes and deaths to best of your personal and raid teams abilities, unfortunately some unfortunate series of events can occur (double fire blossom).

Another is making use of fire resistance gear (as dps) for lava elemental packs (cone stun guys).

Having people assigned to marks and having a few people with markings keybound to make it happen fast.

Best of luck! (I’m sure youre already doing some of these, but just as a good reference).

We are right at about 80-90 minutes, but we kill all trash for BOEs as some of our group still needs them. We use a dedicated hunter pulling very fast with a rotating tank grab - rarely do we ever have just a pack of giants, one dog or elemental - everything is chain pulled with only a couple mana breaks. DPS is used to this and just take an extra tick or two of drinking before hitting next mob. We do maintain a fun attitude while doing it as well - it has never felt hectic.

Chain pull trash, have a good hunter who can do this without linking adds.
Kill bosses faster, this means use Resto Pots on Luci to free up Mage DPS, all melee in on Shazz, cleave boss+adds on appropriate fights, etc.
Don’t do ANY loot until Rag is dead.

If your guild has been collecting and actually using the loot from the raid, and you don’t have a lot of turn-over, the fights should be getting easier. The biggest thing is to not waste time with explaining how fights work, and to kill trash while folks sort out the loot from bosses.

Skipping trash is only a good idea if everyone is paying attention, and the “skipped” trash isn’t getting pulled unexpectedly.

Sub-2 hours should be fairly easy to hit for most guilds with a relatively fixed roster.
