So that policy that specifically states, “Selling items and services for gold is allowed but can only be advertised in-game through the Trade chat channel.”

Would be one of those policies they are referring to.

Nope. The policy is only for the Looking for Group Tool, not public channels. While Trade is the most common location for transactions, there is no actual policy forbidding any kind of discussion of currency or purchase in non-Trade chat channels.

This has come up frequently with GDKP complaints as well, since those are effectively “gear for gold” group searches, and they are not problematic either.

Well, since the wording is quite specific I will just continue to obey the rules as written and you can obey them as you wish to interpret them. I just wanted people to know they will not face any penalties for reporting people as the rule is quite clear.

You can, and you will, suffer penalties to your account for mass flagging accounts that aren’t actually doing anything wrong.

Well, I haven’t been penalized yet. In fact I have gotten several in-game mails from Blizzard thanking me for my reports. And the page I quoted isn’t an article, it’s a direct quote from the rules outlined on Blizzard’s support page.

Again, feel free to interpret them as you wish. They are plain enough for me to follow without requiring any.

That’s what an article is… and the Customer Service rep linked it in his post. That gives all the context I need to reject the draconian notion that any utterance of WTS/WTB outside of Trade Chat is forbidden.

Or do you believe someone selling pages of Green Hills in STV General Chat is violating the rules?

In game: /gi gui will bring up the global ignore list interface. WTS and WTB filter is already there, just needs to be turned on.
