I can think of one sure fire way to get more people tanking: free bonus loot rolls in dungeons, either on all bosses or just the final boss. Could even make it scale based on tank availability.
That would definitely get me to tank
I would recommend going with a guild. Pugs can be quite relentless. Guildies tend to be more forgiving.
I have to say good luck to that.
I began in 2004 as a Warrior tank, I swapped to Paladin heals around the time of Zulâ Grub.
Once Paladins received real tank abilities with BC I never looked back, I rolled a Warrior and Death Knight for ICC, Druid tank for Cataclysm, returned to Death Knight for Mist of Pandaria, Paladin for Dreanor and LegionâŚBut with guilds falling apart and LFG systems I found out the math doesnât make sense.
A dungeon calls for 1 tank, 1 healer and 3 dps. A raid calls for 2 tanks, 3-5 healers, 9-20 dps in which I found myself a well geared tank playing DPS role with crappy gear because my focus was tanking. So I had to spend more time farming DPS gear as a tank.
I was guaranteed to tank mythics, but I served as a 3rd or 4th tank in random fights in most raids outside of the pointless LFR groups, I did it to help others gears faster and lower some queue times for some pathetic trash bag devs called a bonus. that wore thin very fast, not able to find raids or guilds lacking tanks.
They want a fix.
Fix the supply and demand.
The demand for Mythics is high, the demand for raids is minimal. It was better when raids had 1 option 10 man. 2 tanks 2 healers 6 DPS.
Boost healers HPS in PVE
Better Rewards for Tanks.
Then maybe I will go back to my roots and tank again. Until then I am going to sit on easy street with my lazy BM hunter.
This is the second time Iâve seen someone say this in this thread. Is healer hps really that bad or are you guys just playing with really bad healers?
me personally i think tanking on DH is very boring and not rewarding plus its just downright way squishier than other class tanks so i dont enjoy it.
tanking on druid is fun tho because they do great damage and are actual tanks that absorb an insane amount of dmg and have insane survival.
veng DH is super boring and dull tho and very weak compared to druid tank
[quote=âHealon-thorium-brotherhood, post:1, topic:23472, full:trueâ]This is becoming big issue and my que time as a healer has gone up which I dislike.
How do we get more people to que as a tank for Duegons and Mythic plus ?

For me it is 1 thing: I donât want to be the group guide. I donât want to have every dungeon memorized so well that I know EXACTLY where to go next (with no hesitation) as soon as 1 boss or trash group has been killed.
I am happy to tank a group, which means I initiate each fight. I enjoy it. I just hate the pressure of being the group guide. That is why I donât tank.
Blizzard even has a flag. When I queue for a group I can select tank but NOT click the box saying âI know the dungeon and can lead the groupâ. But players ignore that and expect the tank to also be the guide.
simple. UnFu#$ tanks. Blizz stopped making them fun to play because people cried about them in pvp, so people stopped playing them. cause and effect. no one enjoys playing a 3 button punching bag.
Lower legal drinking age. Definitely more will get tanked. Or raise it? Hard to tell if the under age do it because they are not supposed to, or popularity. Or both, boom! Mind blown!
Iâve always played tanks, some expansions all of them. This expansion I only tank for guild members and that reluctantly because this expansion tanking is not really that fun. You have very little control over your life, as a Vengeance main Iâm spikey as hell, and generally tanking is just not fun as it used to be.
Problem is, just like healing, some players (and in my opinion many players) donât want to take up roles that have a lot weighing on performance. Not saying that healing or tanking is insanely hard (honestly I think healing is the most difficult thing to do in the game), itâs just that youâre more in the spotlight when things go wrong, and honestly people donât like being in the spotlight.
Personally they have to make tanking more interesting, or at least the play styles more interesting. Truly the only tank I have fun with really is my Warrior, mainly due to it being involved more than the others, while the others feel like passive tanking where youâre âjust thereâ and holding agro and only use big CDs. But at the end of the day I love tanking in almost any RPG or even in a game like ESO, just WoW tanking has never really felt all that fun, except on a few bosses like Aggramar.
Be more encouraging and willing to help them learn aka be part of a group of friends.
For starters;
-
Ban foul mouthed players permanently. Give them a warning, then ban them. their mouths are about 90% of why people stop tanking.
-
stop making this game suck by trying to drag out play with this joke RNG crap. Who wants to run dungeons all day for pocket lint?
I dont want TF giving me 750 ilvls too muchâŚand I dont want pocket lint.
Sensible, meaningful gear drops instead of the joke they have now.
Only 1 of those tank classes can spec into the most popular and in demand role for raiding, I think itâs kind of important since raiding only requires 1/4 as many tanks as dungeons do, offspecs are a fact of life and some people simply donât want to play melee DPS.
I know I had my fill of âGOGOGO PULL FASTER FAIL TANK!â back in ICC.
That was my issue in WoD⌠so I became a tank myself⌠my issue now is that I ended up tanking a 6 month break and dont remember dungeons mechanics and I am behind on everything
I had noticed both that me tanking and when I heal that the attitude is to go as fast as you can, take every possible short cut and do not stop if you can help it. I think part of the problem is the M+ mentality soaking other parts of the game and dungeons. The lack of patience and no tolerance of mistakes also contributes to the toxic environment.
Not being a jerk to =/= coddling.
I see that most of you are long term players, congrats on being such stalwart individuals. Iâm still fairly new in comparison, but I hope you will overlook that.
I think if you want more people to tank, than more of you need to remember what it is that drove you to/from tanking. I have to believe that the average person that takes on the role of tank is a hearty individual who will not give up at the first sign of criticism. If they doâŚgood riddance.
However, there is a huge amount of middle ground between coddling someone and being a jerk just to be a jerk. Simply saying, âhave you tried this, instead of this?â makes a huge difference. A lot of you know the talents/specs better from playing the game longer. I/they will be grateful for the advice.
Donât expect people to be psychic. If you are expecting something to be exact (fast/slow mode, pull a lot/little, etcâŚ)âŚtell them before the fun begins. People are different, just look at the varying opinions on this board, for some, itâs go.go.go, others slow down and want to enjoy the companyâŚlet the tank know; because each instance is a different set of individuals with different wants.
I know that you are mostly talking about tanks at your level, but keep in mind, people are working there way up as we speak. Most of you donât want to be teachersâŚI get that, I do, but when you are out leveling your alts and you see potential, than remember a little guidance goes a long ways.
I think if they buffed the self healing and damage mitigation - apart from maybe Death Knights (Blood is crazy) - then tanking would be fun. Then youâd see more tanks floating about. I personally love Guardian. I personally think the absorb should get buffed a bit but itâs very fun to play.
