How to fix Survival Hunter:

I have a few solutions to try to help out the underrated Survival Hunter spec. just a few things i would suggest is making Mongoose bite baseline, also make butchery baseline. carve just feels like a useless ability to push. Mongoose bite is always chosen with higher levels of haste. this might be a small fix but instead of buffing the spec every patch update i think a little rework or even just something simple as adding these abilities would make the spec go a long ways. Mastery is a very useless stat, so why not make it where your dots do extra damage with the higher levels of mastery.

Additionally, I’d like to request Camouflage baseline for all Hunters or at least SV (you know, the spec which has Camo as its icon).

We’re Hunters, with traps and camo and such.

I thought it was crazy that MB wasn’t already baseline… Without it the spec feels really really… boring. I felt like getting good MB windows was really great for separating someone spamming buttons that light up from someone putting thought into what they were doing.

They’re not underrated, they’re kind of an enigma to most people, and they have some glaring issues. At least as someone who’s tried to learn what they do for the sake of recruitment, but never actually played one.

  1. Survival has no unique utility or any unique way in which they do damage. They have good AOE and cleave, but HDH also has that and brings Chaos Brand.
  2. They have baseline Hunter survivability. They don’t pick up a single personal mitigation cooldown for giving up their range. It makes absolutely no sense, and it feels like Blizzard forgot something. Add that Hunters are squishy at baseline, and it becomes a liability compared to any other melee option.
  3. On top of not doing anything unique compared to other classes, they don’t do anything better than MM, and MM is ranged, one button to change to, and can use mostly the same gear.

I just think the spec was made specifically to be an oddity. It doesn’t feel like Blizzard had a plan for it, and it probably needs to be completely reevaluated as to what exactly they want it to be.

My personal preference would be to convert Survival to a tank spec.

If they brought it (ranged) back I’d at least give retail a try instead of sticking with classic.

*IMO it was a reallllllly dumb choice to make it melee in the the first place even the original manual said the hunter was primary a ranged spec, so it also would not be fair if melee version ever did better than the other two ranged specs.

a little laughable they removed a spec, made it melee and just kinda set it free and let it die. maybe next xpac theyll do something with their abomination

Every time I press the Mongoose Bite button, I picture my character giving little ankle bites just like a cute little mongoose.

would be nice but big doubt. was my casual play main back in mop when i wasnt doing arenas or rbgs, pretty sad what they did to it, even after mop with the explosive shot change

Was my main from LK - WOD, quit when they nerfed it into the ground in WOD and didn’t bother coming back till a friend got me to try BFA, it was a major waste of time and money neither of us could stand it, I would not have bothered to resub but the announcement of BC classic and the hope of LK classic got me interested .

That… would be nice to see every class have a tank or heal spec

This is it. They hyped themselves up over the concept of a melee Hunter but didn’t do any serious planning about how it should be implemented, what impact it would have on the existing class, what identity and gameplay it should focus on… pretty much all the important details.

I think that’s a little unfair. Most people who have tried survival agree, it’s fairly fun and decently made. It just has no niche. It does nothing that other classes don’t and it doesn’t do a lot of things that other classes do.

They need something like Aspect of the Fox from WoD.

Though my real recommendation would be to make it a tank spec focused on splitting damage with their pet, debuffing with traps, and, probably, kiting… or revert to old survival, a ranged poison spec.
