Part of the reason I think the current Darkshore campaign is a bad idea, right now we need to be more focused upon establishing a new home for the survivors and protecting them. I mean there has to be more of us left alive then the Blood Elves after Arthas was finished with them and they are thriving just fine these days.
the night elves were a fleeting race way before any of this happened actually, due to their loss of immortality, vulnerability to sicknesses they've never faced before, low fertility rates, and the countless wars that they've fought. not to mention some night elves are even experiencing rapid aging, ultimately resulting in their deaths. and now with the destruction of teldressil not only has their only remaining city been obliterated, but their entire homeland has also been ripped from them. not to mention the death toll has cut their already dwindling population in half. to my own estimation, their numbers are close if not less then the high elves, who a lot of people dont even consider a race anymore.
the ne's have been living on the edge of extinction for a good long while. though you have to understand that nelves were one of the oldest races in lore. they were the second race to inhabit their planet, and given how ancient they actually are, it's not surprising that time has taken it's toll. thats actually what sets them aside from the other endangered races; age. while the other races did get close to being wiped out, they still had the advantage of being healthy individually speaking, whereas nelves are plagued with a whole mess of stuff, most of it being due to their previous immortality, and it's recent loss.
