How old are you?

Fun fact, if you know a person’s exact birth day and zip code, it’s often enough to identify them uniquely

I am 64. I don’t play mahjong to keep my mind sharp. I play WOW to keep my mind sharp.
There are days when I feel 94 instead of 64.

Another fun fact: HIPAA has strange regulations about sharing the exact birth day, it counts as PHI and can’t be shared without patient authorization

The more facts you reveal about yourself online, the more people can tick off millions of others in a huge “guess who” game, if they are bored enough, and have access to fancy pants databases!

Sharing the age is probably not going to do a lot, but the birthday and zip code (since zip code has less than 100k people each, usually less than 10k) you might be on a very small list

Unless you live in an incredibly small area then no, not it’s not. There are usually multiple people born in a certain day in a location.

There are 365.25 days in a year. That means 30 people are likely to have your birthday in your zip code on the low end.

Also no one is giving away their zip code.

Average people per zip code: 8,393 people (USA 2023)

Number of days in 80 years: about 29219

To clarify I mean the exact birth day, including the year

Oh really? Look at the first post in this thread, the exact birthday is 4/28/1977

No mean to be creepy but just a reminder to be careful with what you put online!

I’ve lived in multiple zip codes— none of them were the one I was born in.

That is an incredibly paranoid angle. I’d rather run that tiny risk in lieu of making stronger connections with humans on the internet

I’m 576 years old.

You’d think with that kind of wisdom I’d know better than to stick my nose into fun new types of magic, but all it’s taught me is that I’ll probably survive whatever fiasco I get myself into.

I’m a little paranoid, much less about the real humans in this thread who are probably great but the thousands of AI databases that scrape these forums and discord and everywhere else without strong encryption on the internet

I stop using discord essentially, I stop using reddit, I stop using these forums for a while but this is kind of contained if I don’t share too much
