there are sites that sell gold now and that number was in the ball park
this one, officer!
nah, i have not played classic in over a month its not even installed on my computer now. i was just curious about the numbers so i looked
i googled the rate out of curiosity so mathematically people who want to essentially purchase gold, youll get ~170 gold for 16$. but you can assume player fee and AH tax so 200 maybe even 250.
but i still think its too ridiculously easy to farm 250 gold and get a month of play time, if this happens im literally purchasing 6 via gold and unsubbing and its gunna be great.
people who are “teh sky is fallingz, if it iz coming to China it will come to the US!!11!!1!!”
…
The Chinese Version of WoW has had pay to win micros since like… Cata. That have never come to the US version in all that time.
This may not even have been Blizzard themselves implementing this. Remember they are NOT in control of their own products in China - their Chinese “partners” are.
Probably decided too many people are solely playing classic and they are losing out on free token revenue. Also token revenue in retail may have dipped slightly if people left it for classic.
Tokens price of gold isn’t fixed. Only USD. So gold will inflate, but usd price is same.
That’s how modern wow works too.
Gold tokens will kill classic
And when Wow China doesnt die… what then?
oh well. at least we have retail.
Okay, thanks for the info. I don’t read their forums and didn’t realize how much bigger a part of their game-play micro transactions were.
none. its ridiculous to think it will come in our servers
wait for them to do a announcement then react to it
the forums have been shaking anyway so we could get a update soon
I heard a rumour from a reliable source who said 50-75 gold per token.
I’ll keep stating this but tokens help people in areas where WoW time is highly expensive due to the differences in their currency and the US dollar.
Tokens will help people who otherwise couldn’t afford to keep their sub going or having a second account because of that. By playing the game they can get game time and enjoy the game they love.
It’s a big win for those people.
I resubbed for classic only. I have no interest in retail.
1:1 is about right. $1 for 1 gold.
Paying IRL money for in game progress is a fundamental change to the philosophy of the game. Progress in vanilla/classic comes from time spent. While I understand that that limits access for some people, the ones with less time, adding a pay-for-progress mechanic just swaps out who is going to be left behind. Now instead of people who don’t have time to commit missing out, people who can’t/won’t spend hundreds of dollars a month will miss out. Adding tokens doesn’t increase access, it changes who has access.
It’s very much the most anti-classic change that could happen in my mind, because it fundamentally changes how players approach progressing their the game. I’m not going to threaten to quit if it happens, but I honestly don’t know what I would do if suddenly you can buy gold from blizzard.
Even if it was your above 200-400g example it would destroy the economy. It, imo based on what happened in retail, would blow up to at least the cost of the epic mount because most people would be buying tokens and trying to get gold for that.
Anyone have an idea of how much TIME it takes on average to farm the gold for a token in retail?
I’d just use this time * 50g/hr to come up with an estimated classic value.
