Well folks. Most of these responses are to be expected. I mean everything I wrote is basically an open criticism. The reality is that we’ll come back to this post in 3-6 months and see just how far blizzard’s current game design philosophy takes them. I’ll either get to say “told ya so” or I’ll say “wow I was so wrong.”
But based on the trends I’ve seen over the years - I’m fairly sure I know how this ends up. Until then - enjoy the buttery smooth silver spoon grinds.
I think it went beyond just stealthers having a counter in DAoC.
Certain classes were just too strong and unbalanced. Except in DAoC because it was an early mmorpg - most players didn’t really know just how unbalanced things were.
Any long time mmorpg player is going to realize Albion is going to be stacked. Any time you have a class do 1 thing really really well… It gets abused.
Sorc is up there in terms of strongest class in the game. It took multiple stealthers to threaten me. I didn’t have to deal with the most specialized assassin or archer. They were on my side.
Once you know the weaknesses of the design - you can abuse the balance in DAoC.
For those who never played DAoC - the classes were “different” in each realm. Things were balanced at an 8 person group level by mixing needed functions around… This was a weakness of one realm, and as players figured out an actual strength.
Actually, it doesn’t keep people engaged. There are plenty of people I’ve met/seen in Gnomer runs I’ve been part of who don’t have the WSG bracers because that grind is straight horrible.
Where’s the reward for wasting 10 to 30 minutes, if not longer when you go 0/3 because your team has AFKers who gave up after the first clash? Where’s the reason to even continue doing the BG at that point? Oh, that’s right, there isn’t a reward, there isn’t a reason to continue doing the BG if most rounds of WSG consist of one side always giving up.
Also, you sound like an entitled whiny boomer.
No one wants to read your screed, just get on with it.
Which is good, because WSG in its original format does not sync with how people understand and play WSG now. We aren’t a bunch of misty-eyed, fresh faced casuals just newly discovering things for the first time, together, as a community. Stacked teams and min/max performance is the name of the game and in WSG, the loser gets A SINGLE MARK for 15-30min of unwinnable grief. No one has close-call games. That means just getting out of Neutral under ordinary circumstances would mean hours upon hours of non-interactive, boring, obnoxious gameplay in which you have very little control or agency. THIS POINT IS LIKELY GOING TO GET REUSED A LOT
Sure you can make your own 5-man to try to stomp people, but you had better be one of the FotM setups… which excludes quite a few classes. WSG was simply going to be not played otherwise. I know I didn’t do it hardly at all in OG Vanilla and for most players WSG rep was the LAST of the BG reps to get exalted, several expansions later.
See above. AB is not quite as severe to the stomped team, but it still sucks to get 4/5 capped repeatedly by a stacked team, especially for Alliance dealing with pre-Phase 3 Shaman.
It was always a joke, and was a BIGGER joke in Classic when so many people were doing such ridiculous things to earn rank that you had to have 24/7 round the clock grinding sessions to achieve the highest ranks. Good riddance.
Oh you’ve just devolved into whining vaguely now…
SO THIS WAS JUST A WHINE FEST ABOUT PVP REWARDING PEOPLE MORE CASUAL THAN YOU
100% agreed, I’m loving the fact that I can do the turn in daily now. Means I’ll hit exalted in a week now.
I will say if I have to grind AV for an item, I’d definitely do that cause AV honestly is alot more fun for me. WSG is a snooze-fest though. AB can be fun but it’s definitely hit or miss depending on the group you get and the group you go against.
The game could be booming while we do some revamped version of BWL and you’d be here still crying about how much the game has changed and declaring yourself right.
I had one WSG game about a month ago on my Paladin where the enemy team had a Druid FC who went out of his way to abuse the fact that you can get above the Horde tunnel and also jump over the spikes, all that jazz.
It was a very close game that we won but it lasted for over an hour because this jerk was just sitting on top of the Horde tunnel every time he got the flag and then would run to another spot he could exploit everytime anyone went to go try and kill him.
That game basically killed my entire drive to even remotely step foot in WSG after all. There’s no way I want to ever deal with people sweating their nuts off like that, especially when we’re not even 60 yet.
Oh dear god, don’t remind me of those long BG matches from back in the day. The fact that some folk really think that’s some badge of honor of having played Vanilla is wild to me.
Looks at OP’s Dissertation Looks over at the smelly dumpster that is Classic Era server clusters full of warriors and rogues offering hybrids a 10% extra GDKP cut to get them to heal
“I believe the ‘True Classic’ experience you are looking for, is over there.”points
6 months?
“Bah! Direct sunlight is bad for a hamster actually! Let’s see how it will turn out for mr Sniffles in the next 5 years!”
My guy, mr Sniffles is not long for this world anyway. And with SoD’s seasonal nature even mr Sniffles has all the chances of outliving it.
What I’m trying to say - hamsters suck. Were were we?..
There’s a segment of any mmorpg population that wants to redo the exact same thing over and over because it’s comfortable. Warriors and rogues feel powerful because classic WoW gave them great gear and they scale very well. They were also fully created classes.
People feel comfortable with that especially when they like playing those classes.
So they want to keep reliving it over and over, they want new servers so it attracts new people that they can play their next orc warrior with.
Yeah I get that- but I’m wondering why he’s posting here in the WoW Classic Season of Discovery subforum instead of asking for Fresh Era servers in the WoW Classic General Discussion forums.
