There’s no bubble to burst. I’m fully aware of this. But talking about the game is fun; along with ways as it could potentially be improved. Maybe they can pull from it over time.
The rest of your post seems to react as if I’m saying there’s some game breaking problem. I’m simply saying that the game could be improved in such a way. I prefer PVP servers on era. I’m simply pointing out the new dynamics that staggering leveling introduces. And how PvP servers are better suited to 1-60 launches.
Again, the game has never ever done much of anything to build upon or improve World PvP. My point wasn’t that the system is game breaking or something, but that pining for a more robust PvP system in WoW is going to be disappointing. It’s simply never been a priority for them that I can recall, specifically open world PvP.
The most I can recall are things like the PvP towers in zones like Hellfire, but even those were incredibly basic efforts compared to the rest of the genre.
I only play this game for PVP, so I’m unfortunately way too aware of what you’re saying. Would be nice if they shied away from total saturation of raid logger coddling, and re-expanded the PvP route to gearing. But yes, never going to happen.
Yeah last night i was trying to do sleeping bag quest on my alt. Some loser Paladin was just standing on the sleeping bag killing all the lowbies that came by. Just pathetic
I agree, it’s disappointing. The thrill of PvP adds another dimension, and it could’ve been so much more than instanced games like CtF and sequestered arenas.
Would’ve been cool to have DAoC-style mechanics included, or PvP lakes like WAR that ensured a reasonably fair matchup between players in that lake.
Yep, done my share of ganking, and have been ganked plenty in return.
You grit your teeth and murmur “you SoB”
I don’t hide/corpse camp, I just move along.
So far it’s been reciprocal.
I generally play with the philosophy that I don’t attack until I am attacked. Not saying that this is how everyone should play. I just personally think it’s fun to kill somebody who initiated while I’m killing mobs.
Enabled pvp isn’t a mandate, it’s an open option. Like, I don’t go hostile on every D2 game I enter.
I should have just rolled on a PvE server, but my friend rolled on a PvP server.
Same old story as always on these terrible servers. People just waiting for you to be at half hp to fight you, or waiting to gang up on you with other players. Or the lovely giant ball of rogues that camp big questing spots 24/7
I’ve been corpse camped about 70% of the times I’ve been ganked, and as a simple healer, pvp servers kinda suck. Dug my own grave though as all my RL friends play on the server
Last weekend on Chaos Bolt I saw Horde and Alliance mostly ignoring one another or even cooperating as they leveled up. I shot all the way up the lofty level of … 28. I have limited play time, so I’m always behind. And the sleeping bag thing took me a long time. (No ganking by either side on that whole chain.)
This weekend will be different because everyone will be 40 and the sweaties will already be getting bored and roaming around in their death squads, but that’s okay. Definitely no plans to leave my server. Getting ganked isn’t a big deal as long as I don’t get camped. Then I say bad words.
Some time in 2007, I had gotten to max-level on a PVE server with friends from high school. They had played Vanilla on a PVP server, and didn’t like it. I was new, and didn’t know what it meant.
One day, I was looking around at server names, and “discovered” PVP servers. I deleted my max-level, decently geared warlock on a PVE server with my RL friends, and played on a PVP server from then onward.
You’re always going to have jerks on any server. Attacking lvls lower than me has never been my thing, but I have met some great ppl that way when they were being camped. Yell out that you’re being camped. Ppl will come. I still have buds on my friends list from TBC I met that way. They yelled, some of my guild responded.
A lot of big questing areas are already off-limits to levelers (especially in STV). It’s a big reason SM grinding is really popular right now. Because trying to do any quests near hemits camp is impossible lol
Just balls of level 40’s sitting around that area corpse camping people in their 30’s
I got my fill of PvP servers in OG Wrath, Cata, Pandaria, and Warlords. Allow me to translate a few common phrases from pvp server purists:
It’s back and forth fights all the time = I had one fight that made me sweat so I’ll claim that’s how they all are
Corpse campers are an extreme rarity = I don’t corpse camp. At least, that’s what I’ll tell you
Just join a guild and call for back up lol = The only guilds you’ll be able to join and see “results” are the ones doing the corpse camping, and trying to join one that will actually help you, or worse, try to form your own, will result in maybe 2 people that will ever actually care to help you, if it’s not too far out of the way
Call for help in general = Say you’re being camped and watch as anyone who actually bothers to respond just laughs and tells you to git gud
lol pve carebear = I have no actual argument worth discussing so I’m just going to dismiss anything you have to say as beneath me because my ego is too fragile to interact with an opinion that doesn’t match my own
Oh I almost forgot my favorite one: I only gank lowbies in order to get them to call in reinforcements for an actual fight! = I gank lowbies all the time and then vanish entirely as soon as someone even remotely threatening shows up
I noticed this too.
I wish they had made this event in a less questy area for the lvl bracket.
Maybe like out between Refugee and Hammer. Bigger space, less quest interference.
