I honestly don’t understand when people say tanking is boring, I think ok, maybe for raiding but for dungeons? You are literally in control of the entire run, you have to be so much more aware than other roles and every run can feel different based on comp and routes. Even after all this, if you want to optimize you can start competing on hps with heals or dps with dps. I just don’t think it can ever get boring, I think it can get weary, but boring I dont think so… imho
I don’t trust healers. Being a paladin tank is right up my alley.
i play tank cause tanking used to be a respected role.
nowadays, a common belief for tanks, in any mmo, is you stick your least skilled roster on them.
the worst part is: the belief has merit. tanking is just not hard, and doesnt encourage perfect play/optimization/increasing performance each week
That is very dependant on the level of content you do
Yep. I was a healer main and couldnt find a tank that would keep tanking so I decided to just do it myself.
It is really is and sometimes I have to catch myself and say WAIT I can also dps, when you know another good tank its great to DPS for em knowing the group is ‘in good hands’ lmao
For me it saves time to search and make groups and world content is a joke
As dps you are easily replaceable , your value only comes in high end groups who actually values how much damage you are dealing rather than the generic dps role.
I played tank for instant Q’s, which I feel like is how most start.
bolstering is a dps affix that becomes the tank’s problem if done wrong, very anoying in pugs tbh
I tank because I am a control freak who wants things done my way. I’m fine with debating the merits of my ways and changing if I see an objectively superior way/logic, but I like the natural control that comes from the role.
I can’t stand to play non tanks for very long and I’m always watching what other tanks do and the mistakes they make and/or what I do different and why my way is better even if this all is in my own head.
yep. same with bursting for healers. in a good group it’s no big deal. in a bad group it’s a nightmare.
I wouldn’t say I tank because of bad PUG tanks, but I will say I don’t push on my DPS character in PUGs because of bad tanks. If I didn’t enjoy tanking, I would probably just play less / not play at all given how bad some tanks are.

Did what I consider a dumpster key on my Shaman (17 SOA) and this tank was just an oompa-loompa, doing the weirdest pulls, not filling % early on and then pulling a bunch of garbage near 3rd boss. This dungeon has a very, very, VERY clearly defined “best route”… just stick to the script. It’s that simple, just stick to the script as a tank on this one.
17s are the new 12s it seems like, I dunno.
I guess I would fit that description as well.
damn were all just control freaks arent we
I guess someone has to lead LOL
guilty of this as well. I’m not a better tank, although I do my best to perform well. It’s because I get sick of waiting in queue.
But I really do like Prot Pally, though. The rotation is fun and doesn’t have too many gaps.
I started tanking in BC because we needed a tank for kara, and I’ve been doing it since.
I legit get bored when I’m dps’ing, like, fall asleep bored. I can’t explain why. but something about tanking keeps me more engaged, maybe because I’m thinking about where to go, what to pull, how many I can combine.
I play a bad tank because of bad tanks
Whole reason I picked up tanking was not liking dependency on my bnet friends being online, lol.
It’s funny how easy it is and some people get all nervous about it.
Thank you for your service! I thought about it for the reasons you mentioned, but as a tab target guy, didn’t think it was in the cards
Used to love to tank PuGs, but the current Mythic “GOGOOGOGOGOGOGOGOOGOGOGOGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” mentality has percolated down to even normal leveling dungeons. It’s freaking exhausting especially when some DPS pulls extra crap and wipes the group.
“Beat the Clock” is not always that fun.
Literally this.
On the off chance you find a good tank/healer/dps, you friend them right away and take time to try and become friends.
