If it comes out the week of my birthday I’ll already have a few days off. As it is I usually take a day or two before the weekend or second weekend after an expansion, so I can spend a full day or two just enjoying what there is. I don’t rush content, but I do like being able to spend a few hours a day without interruptions while the wife is at work and my daughter is at school.
I’ve always taken a long weekend around expansion releases, and this will be no different. ![]()
You are adorable.
Zero. Hype ended a long time ago; it’ll be there when I get back.
I usually take launch week off for new expansion drops
Same. At 51 I have plenty of other things to keep me busy in the real world. Particularly making money and not wasting vacation time on a video game. I will get three days of early access which normally land on a Friday anyway since the launch will probably happen on a Tuesday.
Every day, since I’m retired. ![]()
All
I used to love taking a few days off and having a gaming bender.
I can’t anymore mainly just because I need to get up move around and do other stuff.
I’m a flake. I bounce in and out of game on a whim.
I’ve been bouncing between learning some in game mechanics and recording music. It’s possible I log out and 20 minutes later I’m back. Or I log out and 6 months later I’m back.
Not really. There are some issues and maybe a little down time, but overall its fine. Its just that the forums see all the complaining about the minor issues, and the rest of the time people are busy playing and not talking here. The last few launches in the first week I had maybe like a few hours total of downtime or things like a boat to DF that didn’t show up, etc.
I’ve played at launch every expansion, often times taking time off work and have never regretted it. If the game goes down for a couple hours, whatever.
Probably none
i guess everyone has different experiences, but this hasn’t been mine at all. there are a few glitches, sure, and some of the megaservers can have some issues right off the bat (i play on a52, so i’m not going to pretend this is fake!) but i’ve mostly had great launch experiences.
that’s the other thing. i’m not taking time off with the intention of doing nothing but wow for those days. if the servers are down, whatever, i’ve got plenty of other stuff i can do around the house.
If it releases next summer, I’ll likely be remote anyway so I can level in between work and pointless meetings.
Great minds think alike. I have a number of things to do on launch day.
What my wife and I do are things like:
- Prepare breakfast (light) together
- Go to the basement and gather WoW memorabilia from Wrath, Cata, and MoP, and WoD.
- Get our office ready for work while we have our Warcraft mugs filled with either ginger ale or coffee
- Have her Time clock ready on her Excel Spreadsheet (she is good at Excel) to countdown
- Have dinner ready and snacks as well
I am a recovered alcoholic so I don’t drink anymore. But I can’t help to have some Doritos, Uncle Ray’s, Faygo’s Rock and Rye, and Ginger Ale ready when launch starts.
We both have our laptops plugged to 36" monitors and have our speakers a little louder than usual. We love playing for hours before showering and going to bed. So looking forward to this day.
The launch day of early access, to get leveled and get gathering profs rolling.

I may take the Monday off, if that is launch day. So I can have a three day weekend. Or the Friday after launch day for the same reason.
Good luck, I hope it doesnt have a level or JP cap like that pile of crap Tactics Ogre.
- Its a day off naturally or its not. I don’t really wanna rush with the main content I do locked anyways. Its level with friends and chill
I have done this in the past, but the number of bugs and login queues made it not worth it.
Ill make sure i have the week off. There is way to much stuf to do at an expansion release, not to even begin to think about how much stuff will be needed to do with the introduction of housing.
Maybe just Wednesday of release week to share the excitement with my guildies and friends. Its pretty low priority for me though so it depends whats happening around that timeframe.
