Why not 128 bits it is 2021 hello???
Tree fiddy
Last I heard wow was still programmed with punch cards. Whats this bit thing you talk about?
Weâd have 128-bit CPUs if they were necessary.
Because you are not the boss of WoW.
Pretty sure they are!!! Hello???
Why stop advancing technology?
64-bits can store an insanely large number.
I still think we should go higher maybe like at least 70 bits should have been standard even 15 years ago maybe 96 by now.
Itâs a PC game. They could literally make it any power-of-two bit-size they want.
The old consoles referred to their bit count as a way to show how much each integer could contain. A variable given the integer value 32,611 may actually just be a series of flags for program control. The actual aggregate value is irrelevant.
So. With PC code, on Windows⌠you could use any length of data structure for whatever you want. Now, many coders still use integers, but they donât think of it like a number, itâs a series of on-off switches and the significance of any given switch is itâs position IN the integer.
Make sense? No? Well I didnât teach comp sciâŚ
TL;DR - Itâs a PC game, they can use however much memory they want in any size block they want in multiples of 8 bits apiece. Consoles used to mention their bit size because thatâs how they stored sprites (little graphics bits). Bigger integer size meant more data per sprite. Usually meant better graphics is all.
It will run on potatos but I donât think N64 is a potato.
We have quantum computers now.
I think something like a block chain requires more bits hence Bit Coins. Hello???
Which is why I think WOW should increase its bit integer width to 128. As they add more items to the game I think 64 bits will run out.
I think 128-bit or higher CPUs wonât be coming out anytime soon for desktop/laptop. Weâll be stuck with 64-bit for a very long time.
With a 128 bits you can have octowords and with octowords you can get octonoozles!
Maybe if you divide the graphical requirements and graphics and everything else by 64, you would be able to have the game run above 10 fps at 240p.
WOW graphics arenât that advanced I think your RTX graphics card just enhances them a bit with ratracing.
When I run WoW on my PC, it uses up about 2.4 gigabyes of memory. Thatâs 2,400 megabytes.
And that is live memory. The game on disk is much bigger. As Brunden says, itâs around 76 gigabytes.
Who uses bits? Nobody uses bits. People use bytes.
Umm I am talking about BITS not bytes. We are talking about the engineering of WOW and not how much storage it uses.
If you think that, someone lied to you!
