I always thought giving us a dome type ability that reduces dmg taken by 10% but also increases healing recieved while inside by 10% would be a cool idea.
Iād want our raid util to have some flavor.
Iād say remove the heal from Revival, make it 5 min cd and make it also dispel curses. Give a conduit or something that heals for 5% max health per debuff removed or something.
Add a new raid heal called Reversal. Applies reversal to all allies in your raid or party. For the next 5 seconds, the next 300% SP (same as tranq minus hot) damage taken instead heals your ally.
No DR but is basically an instant Tranq/Revival spirit shell which is useful, with huge healing potential if used at the right times with potentially double the healing. Maybe bump it down to 250% SP if too strong.
Other idea, as othersā have mentioned, raid wide stagger, but combo this with holy priest Ray of Hope effect.
Your raid and party members stagger 80% of all healing and damage for the next 10 seconds. Any healing staggered this way is increased by 22%.
22% is the amount of healing that would make this effectively 15% damage reduction at 80% stagger. (Devo Aura is 17.65% increase effective health/healing).
That ability sounds freaking amazing. I think itās too strong, but I love the concept.
Yeah possibly, but I feel itās on par with spirit link although better just cause of no stacking requirement.
Honestly, MW pumps. Especially in fights where you are stacked. The issue is that there are other classes that pump similar numbers AND have stronger raid CDs. Our numbers in mythic CN are nothing to laugh at. The issue is that for the sort of dmg profiles of tough fights you need 1) good mana efficiency and 2) dmg reduction. Its why pallies and rshammies are the meta rn.
I think Blizz needs to figure out how to balance utility specs vs. throughput specs. In older iterations of the game specs like disc were pure utility and didnāt have the same throughput as holy priest. It is odd that Blizz chose to nerf the hps and utility of disc priest, but leave the two other utility healers (pally and r shammy) totally overtuned and mw basically untouched bar some slight mana costs that to be frank we need more of. Life cocoon for one is laughable. During tyrannical last week I had to laugh seeing a boss in a +14 eat my LC on a tank in like 1 hit.
And damage and they are melee.
They are good for KSM for sure tho.
I mostly just use Life Cocoon for the buff to HoTs. Iāve completely forgotten about the shield because yeah - gone in seconds. I actually went to WoWhead on reading your post because I had forgotten about that shieldā¦
Throughput vs Utility specs is a long standing issue. In many MMOs actually. I see this to an even greater extreme in FFXIV where in early expac the throughput healer is brought to all fights, and then about mid-progression through you get tossed out of the raid for some rando with bubbles and shields who doesnāt even know where to go to zone in to the raid and hasnāt even done the intro quests, is 20 iLevels lower but heyā¦ utility. Still another MMO failing at this even more than WoW is no excuse. If anythingā¦ itās a call to ānot be like those guysā.
On Holy Paladin - yeah my paladin doesnāt even look at the mana bar, and I can get some insane numbers on the HPS meterā¦ but itās just a meter. I toggle over to the āoverhealing meterā and I see that 103% of that HPS was overhealing on a few select targets. Meanwhile my Monk is dishing out 2/3 the HPS but 1/4 the overhealing and itās spreading all over the raid. Compare Essence Font to Light Of Dawnā¦ especially in a comp where many of the DPS are ranged.
As for utilityā¦ bosses may eat Life Cocoon instantly, but the HoT boost is still there andā¦ they donāt just flat out ignore it like Blessing of Protection (blocks all physical damage, so the boss castās nature damage or aberration or somethingā¦).
Holy Paladin is VERY STRONG, but itās not as perfect as some believe. For the last 2 weeks Iāve been doing our raid on my Monk instead and after some initial learning curves, itās actually felt easier.
I consider the melee to be a bonus. āFun to play and not super boring like all ranged classesā is a huge buff after all.
- This is obviously super subjective. But Iām really glad we now have 2 melee healers, so I can return to healing in WoW, and not just only do it in other MMOs.
The damage could be higher, or the damage of Holy Paladin could be lower. Choice on that could go either way - but they should be the same in the end result. Not being the same is the balance issue.
I see it kind of from the perspective of fights like Mythic Council which my guild is progging on rn (on my main). Having an extra dmg reduction CD like aura mastery is massively useful throughout such a long fight and the stacking makes h pally extremely strong. R shammies and H pallies shine in that fight. Disc used to as well pre nerf. For a fight like mythic Hungering, the dr is incredibly necessary as well.
Yu-Lon is honestly not a bad cooldown, it does so much healing it is actually great if you can set it up right with a sacrificial anima pot. I think the issue is Revivalās weakness in a raid setting with so much rotting dmg this tier + mw mana costs so you can keep up your healing outside of big CDs.

Tangental to what I see in your post;
Frankly the number 1 reason I pushed to be made āHealing Officerā for my guild (an argued for the need for that duty) was because they kept just inviting āall the people we know with enough iLevelā meaning we ended up with nights where all the healers were the same class.
Each healer is situationally good here or there, amazing elsewhere, and sucks somewhere. So I wanted to be able to ensure I had a varied comp. Not stacking classes.
Ideally I would bring a Monk to our raid without giving up the paladin - but theyāre both my toons soā¦ I gotta switch em around on a fight to fight or week to week basis.
I still havenāt achieved my other goal: getting all our healers to have both a viable offspec (not so much viable for the raid, but at least viable in normal and low keys) so they can understand perspectiveā¦ and getting them to each have more than 1 healing toonā¦ so that we have more flexibility without needing to mess up with the āhuman raid compā.
Instead Iāve got 3 people that only play 1 class in 1 single specā¦ and meā¦ stuck leveling EVERYTHING so I can be the flexā¦
Iād not been a WoW healer since BC, and had been a DPS for the last expac, but I could see something was seriously wrong in our results - so I pushed up this paladin, got myself into the comp, and then pushed to be in charge of itā¦ then started working on all the other healers and Monk made it up there first because I enjoy melee.
ps: Iām also not at the level of some of you. Weāre heroic raiding, not in Mythic, and in fact we made a choice not go there as weāve got too many of us like me who are older and lack the time to be able to go that intense. So we figured once weāve beat this out, weāll go casual till 9.1
I consider the melee to be a bonus. āFun to play and not super boring like all ranged classesā is a huge buff after all.
If itās fun for you thatās really awesome! and it should be what really matters
But sadly for the meta isnāt great to be melee in any form of content right now.
Lot of frontals, Sanguine, Spitefull, Storming, Quaking, etcā¦
Itās just very anti melee.
While this is true itās actually part of the fun for me. I enjoy the choreography of melee mechanics and DPSing. Itās very satisfying to do it well unlike constantly being annoyed with cancelling casts as a caster.
Obviously though, itās hard, because blizz is really bad at clear and consistent telegraphs in this game, or having intuitive mechanics. And there isnāt really a huge reward for the risk we have to do. Those suck and would be nice to fix.
Having great damage and mana efficiency for the effort of fistweaving and being a melee should be our reward. Which we do get efficiency and dmg as a reward it just should be more.

Yeah. The challenge is why itās fun.
Essentiallyā¦ something has to be there to get me to not log out and go back to FFXIV - where this kind of issue is faced by everyone, ranged or melee, or even GW2 which has no real distinction between melee and ranged because you have weapon swapsā¦ and the issue shared in both positions (in fractals and raids, not the old 2013 era content).
So yeah. For that added challenge I get the bonus of mana that is pretty easy to manage. In most fights itās not me needing the innervates, its one of the other healers. Itās not as insane as my paladin where I joke back in chat āwhatās mana?āā¦ but Fistweaver mana management seems to actually be easier than it is for our shamans and druids - something I seriously did not expect.
āGreat damageā isā¦ something Iām not so sure MW has, given that I also play Holy Paladin. Butā¦ it is great compared to the non-Paladins. But as far as āshould be our rewardā on that yes. Given that my paladin does have that - I donāt understand why my Monk lacks it. Whoās idea of balance was that?
ā¦
Yes the telegraphs are nowhere near as good as they are in FFXIV where the ground lights up in patterns. GW2ā¦ half the fights have telegraphs and half donāt. Trying to remember what it looked like in ESOā¦ butā¦ overall Iām not too bothered by the lesser telegraphs here. Theyāre overkill in FFXIV. And once you have telegraphs that are that blatant for everything - it changes how you design fights and you play them. FFXIV fights are just a dance on a timer. Step on the right colored square at the right moment and collect your loot.
Lol GW2 telegraph problem is mostly the fact that the mobs are lit up with particles effects from everyone attacking that youāre fighting blind 99% of the time.
Hehā¦ Yeah I find that everytime I go back to playing GW2, I have to spend a few days getting used to their graphics that seem to have way too much āintensity / contrastā and cause me eyestrainā¦
Basically I was trying to agree with you that WoW could use better telegraphs, with the caveat that I donāt want them to go the FFXIV way where the telegraphs get so good, the devs then start scripting the fights to them like some form of line dancingā¦
My Tauren may do the Electric slide as an emoteā¦ but my FFXIV Bunny Girl is stuck doing it as her combat rotationā¦
