It’s been this way since the Pre-Patch and hasn’t been fixed despite Blizzard absolutely knowing about it from the many forum posts and bug reports. Why is there like 2 people working on the TBC team?
Because you’re clicking too fast, dummy.
Your impatience is probably the reason for half your IT problems, too.
because the system was designed to handle 2k players at max
Mine must be real slow because it’s still empty.
Do you think it has anything to do with the numbers of concurrent users and database connections?

yeah it has nothing to do with the codebase the current devs had nothing to do with being set up for servers having a 2k player cap
I wasn’t talking about the codebase, I asked about numbers of connections to a database. And more or less am just curious on thoughts in relation specifically to that.

the codebase is what makes up the database. its the core of everything and just like runescape from the same era the whole thing is a mess of spaghetti code bug fixes. I was just mirroring your sarcasam but after rereading the post yeah it did not come out right it has everything to do with the codebase
This is inaccurate. The codebase largely is what we refer to when discussing the server-side code that runs on Blizzard’s servers. Our game clients (while also coded and possibly included in “the codebase”) talk to the server-side code. All the processing, for example the percentage to hit or miss, get a crit, etc. will happen in code running on the servers.
Databases are running independently from the server side code, and the number of concurrent connections may actually be a significant point to contemplate here.

we are basically saying the same thing just worded different lol end of the day this game was not coded to have more than 2k players on a server at a time
We are not.
Sure it was.
They have developed the codebase for realms to support much larger populations.
You’ll notice here, the mention of connected realms involving the “Database Engineers”:
This is a clear indication that the “codebase” with regards to what the WoW Classic developers touch is independent from the database(s) that the Database Engineers would touch. Merging servers would require merging data from disparate databases into a unified database.

if it truly supported the population the ah and mail systems would not be so slow at peak times. they literally gutted the studio that actually made this game when the activision merger happened 99% of the devs right now did zero work in the original game. the game is spaghetti code making things work. the whole point of classic plus is rewrite the code to be cleaner. the private server devs have more experience with this games code than blizzard themselves at this point
Because overpopulated mega realms are still there. The mail system was not built for this many players at one time.
This feels like a largely irrelevant point to make, especially in regards to how infrastructure works.
I highly doubt anyone with any serious coding experience believes that the point of Classic (or Classic+ however you’d like to define that) is buying into some snake oil salesman ideology that prioritizes readability for some lowest bar denominator over functioning and optimized working systems.

the old systems dont vibe well with the retail systems they already upgraded the client its just the next step in the process. a clean codebase makes expansion far easier than the current spaghetti code that creates so many random bugs when anything is changed. did you already forget the mess of launch day?
Meaning what, in this context?
“Clean code” is an ideology pushed on some developers, but it doesn’t really fit games or any system highly optimized for performance.
If you mean a fresh start, then the idea that developers who work on, and maintain a codebase that you personally call “spaghetti code” would develop a system that you personally would have an easier time reading is wishful at best, in my opinion.

ever since the server merge the game has been complete TRASH. layering oce basically being slapped int he face. SHAME ON YOU BLIZZARD. GIANT L RELEASE JUST LIKE WHATEVER YOU COME OUT WITH NEXT. i wish id idnt love the game as much as i do. because the company running it is PATHETIC TRASH
you have no idea what you’re talking about “spaghetti code” and “clean codebase”. Such a cringe comment from someone with zero dev experience pretending to be educated on the subject.
2 people working, when did the second person start?
it has to do with item accounting. thats why you cant move stuff around your bags or trade and do whatever you want when getting mailbox auctions. go someplace besides a major city and its lightning quick, youre welcome kid.
