How Far Should Classes Go For Race Acessibility?

It might be kind of fun if it rotated. Like… for the next three months, Undead can be Paladins. Then cut it off again. Then for the next three months, Humans can be druids, then cut it off again.

It would give us something to do… level new alts! that we can’t just do anytime. Who knows when that combo will be avail again!

I don’t know… i like the idea of mount releases done that way too. Keeps things unique and not so easy to get.

I think we did enough trails of passages to have our abilities.

After nearly 20 years (Warcraft III and WOW) of races intermingling, I am at the point that all races should be able to be all classes.

When they opened up monks to all but two races and deathknights to every race, it seemed they would go that way eventually.

p.s. Goblin and Worgen Monks now…

I don’t share the same interest of every class for every race,it is an insane notion to think of humans as being a shaman in wow . Totally ,humans can’t handle the elemental even though they can handle some of the abilities just doesn’t fit .

SHould be 100%. Every race should be able to be every class. If a person doesn’t like that for whatever reason, they can choose to not play that combo. The rest of us can choose as well.

The community is behind you on this, we need Nightborne Druids!

Give me Nightborne Druids or give me a death!

Here’s some observations I’ve made about certain classes and how a race can access them lore-wise. (This is not based on programming or creator’s choice; the latter is usually “so one race can’t be everything when others can’t”)

Warrior: No restriction. It’s just regular physical combat
Hunter: No restriction. It’s just using bows and/or guns. And having an animal partner (which every race can have, even gnomes since mech pets became a thing)
Death Knight: No restriction. Just being raised up by the Lich King.
Mage: An affinity to the arcane arts and a cultural acceptance of it (hence why Night Elves didn’t have it until Cata since magic lead to the First Invasion)
Warlock: Knowledge of demons, affinity to the fel, and a cultural acceptance of it (warlocks ruined Argus, hence why Draenei and Lightforged don’t accept it)
Priest: Reverance of a greater power enough to access the Light (whether the Light itself or a diety of sorts) And/or a willingness to use the Void (game-wise, a race has able to do both)
Paladin: Same as Priest, but has to be able to attune themselves to becoming a living vessel of the Light and the ability to be that 24/7.
Druid: Connection to the natural world, whether it’d be culturally or magically (like the case of the Worgen)
Shaman: Connection and some reverance of the elements. Also an ability to make a pact with them (Or a business deal in a goblin’s case)
Monk: The ability to control one’s emotions(?) (This one I wasn’t too sure on. Someone mentioned that about Worgen and why they currently can’t be, but claims lore has changed since then. It seems more like a creator’s choice on that end)
Rogue: The ability and willingness to be sneaky. (Technically, this should probably be an all-races class since there doesn’t seem to be any restrictions. The only explanation I can think of is for Tauren, and maybe just “too big” to be sneaky. Lore-wise, they’re the physically largest playable race)
Demon Hunter: Has to be fused with a demon and be in control. The process is only known to the Illidari as Illidan was the first one. And Illidan only choose Night Elves and Blood Elves for the process (as mentioned before, there’s currently no lore-reason for new, non-elf, demon hunters to be created, unless the Burning Legion becomes a major threat again)

As for why some classes became and can become possible availible for some races is because the culture can always change (Night Elves eventually started accepting mages) and that outside forces can teach them when welcomed in (Dwarves gained mages and shamans when the Dark Iron and Wildhammer were invited back into their kingdom, bringing their teachings for Bronzebeards)

The reason Worgen and Goblin weren’t given monk in MoP was because their starting zones are time locked to pre cata where it made zero sense a Pandaren to be present. Gilnean starting zone even more so. The whole Inner Peace argument for the most part was fabricated by the players.

Exiles Reach removes this restriction so there now is no reason Goblin and Worgen can’t be monks.

Yeah, makes sense. Like I said, I didn’t really think of a reason why they couldn’t be monks until you said that. It felt more like a programmer’s choice, because again, they don’t want a race to have every class. (Its different from having a class availible to every race)

The monk mount also mentions going to kezan. The monk kount is a shapeshifter and can teach monks. That was a hint blizz was setting seeds for goblin monks since Legion.

Anyway goblin brewmasters are defibtely a thing. Goblins are very prevalent during brewfest. Being a brewmaster should have been iconic for them and they are long overdue that. Especially since they like making beer. And fighting people with beer is very much a goblin thing they would do. Not to mention breathing fire has a comical spin to it much more apreciated by a goblin.

If we are the hero and saviour of Azeroth then we are quite capable of being anything. The player character is far above the average individual from their respective race. We don’t fit the cultural norm. We don’t represent our own races really. Especially with stories and countless quests that are not at all race or class appropriate.

I know this is 8 days later, but I really wanted to address this.

D&D hasn’t had class or race restrictions in a very long time. Well before WoW came out.

And what play the most people? Humans, Elves, Half-Elves.
WoW is generous enough with the current design.

Give some races more options but unlocking everything would just make the game boring and open the question why race x isn’t being played.

This is too true, we’ve learnt from various NPC Allies and Foe, those willing to learn can be taught any class, even Druids now over time expanding lore with different avenues to become a Druid, Emerald Dream, Wild Gods, Loas and just recently with the Kul’tirans the Drust.

Realistically if going off Lore, any race can be any class aslong as the Person, in our case the special Saviour of Azeroth, wants to be, we a truely unique not bound by race/cultural archetypes of a regular citizen in Azeroth.

Edit: look at Shamans, it use to be asking the Elements for aid, guidance, connecting to them, Goblins have completely changed that lore with creating bargains with the Elements, why can’t more, if all races make bargains for personal gain??.

And blood elf druids

Let people play what they want. Focus on what you would play. I personally woupd love to see things like goblin paladins, brewmaster monks, or even druids. The kelfin follow a low that blessed them, thats enough to get access to the emerald dream and be a druid for example. If they gave Kelfin options to goblins they could get aquatic based druid forms, and the base goblins the mechanical origin forms from zereth mortis for example. Gnome and mechagnome druids woupd be nice to use those mechanical life forms too.

Exactly this.

All classes should be available to every race.

If it doesn’t make sense to you, then your imagination is the problem.

Just any race which is not troll or tauren

None. Zero far.

wow forums moment

Get rid of races (and racials), and just have a generic humanoid form (sex also indeterminate).

Also, give classes all the same abilities that are only cosmetically different.

Now players can roll whatever they want and not worry about meta or ‘wokeness’.
