How does Draenei horn growth work?

Prior to WoD, we had configurations of horns and head crests that showed Draenei who had horns (if female) or crests and horn/crest combos (if male) within a certain length, depending on style.

Then in WoD, we saw Yrel, who had horns which were longer than other Draenei horns seen in the game thus far (albeit curled). Despite Yrel being implied to be a young Draenei woman, at the time she had longer horns than other Draenei previously encountered, including ones from the Exodar.

Following this we’re introduced to the Lightforged Draenei in Legion, who have some horn styles that are even longer than Yrel’s (or larger crests in the case of the male Draenei).

Does this mean that the length of Draenei’s horns depends on age or is it based on other factors?

When people go through puberty, things start getting bigger.

They can just trim their horns, if they want a new horn style.

But Yrel’s implied to be young for a Draenei, and she’s sporting some long horns.

I think there isn’t any actual metric for it; it’s just based on the rule of cool.

That said, based on the examples you’re mentioning though, you might be able to explore the concept of their attachment to the Light being a factor that influences horn growth. Y’rel and the Draenei with the Army of the Light are definitely pretty far out on that spectrum.
