Stay motivated? That’s a weird question with respect to a game.
I play it because it’s fun. I don’t play it when it’s not fun.
Why does it need to be more than that?

I make friends I enjoy doing stuff with.
I don’t. I have barely logged in in the last couple of weeks.
I started leveling a new character due to this bonus exp thing but at 75 I already decided I’m not in the mood to level yet another character.
If it continues I feel I’ll probably take a break.
Sometimes I find other goals that aren’t strictly character power progression.
Right now, I’m learning to warrior. It’s a class I never played seriously before, but I’m loving the fast-paced feel and class theme. Essences, gear upgrades, practicing rotation, dungeon running…it all keeps me busy. Meanwhile, if I get tired of that, my priest still has 'mogs to farm and mounts to grind for, quests to do and an endless string of dungeons to run for guildies.
To be honest, I have so much to do that it’s a little overwhelming. Learning a new skill is hard; I have to think about every button press. Nothing comes naturally as a warrior, which is nuts because healing is as easy as blinking for me. I have to step back and focus on just one thing at a time or I’ll get so scatterbrained I won’t finish anything.
My attitude is:
I play my main (the class that appeals to me the most – based on theme, gameplay, etc). I do reasonable grinding on him to keep him up to date. For example, I complete the 3 Nzoth assaults every week, but I do not do the dailies (aside from when I’m actually working on filling up the assault bar). Why? Because the dailies are boring and the rewards are minimal.
Follow the good gameplay. Don’t force yourself to 100% complete all available daily activities, UNLESS you actually find their gameplay fun.
This leaves you with plenty of mental energy to do “non-progression” activities like farm mounts, or play other games.
For starters, instead of just thinking about those games, I actually go play them. Just returned from a 3 month hiatus.
Think about this: you’re legit worrying about keeping current and leveling that cloak, when it’s all going to reset in 6 - 8 months. Is missing some days or weeks really going to have that much of an impact that you can’t spend some time on another game?
It’s not like stepping out on your significant other.
Listen I have heard this from people who need a break from the game many times over the years. Just take yourself a break and see how you feel afterwards.
Even if you take a break until the next expansion it will fine.
Take care of yourself.
In the end of expansion patch , i take wow with moderation , helps me always have fun when im playing this game. 2-3 evening on my main , 2-3 evening playing alts , 2-3 evening playing other games or doing something else .
Do you have a 40 hour job? Because that tends to make gaming not get old. You want to come home after working all day and wind down with some gaming. You know you will spend your entire day off running errands in the virus ridden surface world.
Its like that thing where. Once you work all day, your chair feels like the best thing ever. But if you sit in your chair all day, you feel like you are dead.
When I did data entry, I’d have a tough time sitting at a PC after work. When I wanted to play videogames, I’d end up playing consoles from the couch just to avoid it lol
Hey, if you make it to 7:
15 is basically easy.
I mainly only play this character. I’ve got out the hunter, doing a few emissaries to get the thingies to get essences, but otherwise I hardly ever play my other two 120’s.
Yeah, HATED that My Hunter did it the RIGHT WAY; She went back during Legion timegates, raising all of the panda reps except Shadowpan assault (needs throne of thunder runs) to exalted. It was WAYYYYY easier. She camped on dino spawn, raising all of those (but never got any mounts
), did dailies for that armored/gryph mount one, as well as that and another rep at the farm.
If they keep this up, this may be my “Wow style” from now on:
Just playing a main.
It’s a video game.
If you aren’t having fun you should play or do something else.
Playing the same game for years isn’t exactly a normal play style for games.
aaaaand u bring ur unnecessary political view into this. bannable
I mean, you don’t raid and you don’t do M+…what do you do?
Raiding and M+ are what keep me here. Some weeks I run a ton of M+ and other not so much, it depends on the affixes. Raiding is fun because it’s with friends.
I wouldn’t last 2 weeks if all I did was LFR and WQ’s.
As much as I absolutely despise Visions, they are a vehicle to gearing my toon to compete in the content I enjoy.
Also, playing alts will burn you out in no-time. Highly recommend you stick to one character and work into M+ and raiding on that toon. The daily burden is much less and payoff/satisfaction of completing challenging content is extremely fun.
why do people feel like they have to play?
If you are not enjoying, for real, do something else.
I would so work on the bee if my horde toons could use it
Gimme bee blizz. Honeybees are so cute
Staying with it is what separates the Men/Women/Everyone else from the boys/girls/everyone else.
That aside, I just make sure I play well below the burnout line. As soon as I feel burnout coming, I take a break.
Cool story I guess, but why tell us?
I mean do you want to know what I did for 15 minutes in game?
I don’t have to stay motivated… I just play the game with my wife when I can for fun!
I don’t.
I have been spending more time playing other games like Odin Sphere remastered or KH3 (cause I havent beaten it yet).
I maybe do dailies twice a week. I really only log to do assaults, daily minor vision, pvp, M+, raid.
I have been leveling a mage and for me this is NOT a grind cause the play style of mage is different from boomkin and I’ve been enjoying it.
I could suggest mount/mog/pet farming as well.
But ultimately if the game is getting dry go do something else for a bit and maybe log into wow a few days less a week than you currently do and see how you feel.
I take breaks. Play other games. Do things in the real world.
