Good rule of thumb, remember nearly half of American readers are still stuck in grade school and expect half thoughtout ramblings as a result. The other usual suspect seems to be some folks who English isn’t their primary language using a translator and or AI to fill in the blanks, and some things inevitably get lost in translation.
I am just here to eat my pop corn
I am also here to eat Luuba’s popcorn… steals a handful every time Luuba looks away
First I use my eyes, then I use the keyboard
Skim and then throw a like on the first post I agree with. Usually all of the reasonable responses are given within the first 20 replies
It really depends on what the topic is
The biggest problem is is that most titles are click bait. The OP knows this when they create the thread. They want people to click in and start commenting and at some point they hope that it goes completely viral and there’s almost 1000 posts in it within the first week. Unfortunately, we clicked the title, but then we start reading the OP and realize the two very seldomly have a lot in common. Also, there’s hardly ever a brand new topic of discussion here. It’s always a topic. That’s usually been beat to death that someone else just wants to add their two cents in a new thread instead of adding to the old thread. So at the end of the day, whether you’re creating a thread or replying to one, you are still rolling the exact same dice, trying to offer an opinion and avoid an argument at the same time.
I read and respond to the OP before reading any replies. This is especially the case with threads that already have hundreds of replies.
It’s always hilarious when somebody who’s already heated up over the topic immediately jumps at my throat once I’ve entered the conversation.
Yes, I would love a cheeseburger from In and Out!
I try and read the thing.
Some time during the original flying vs no-flying arguments back in the day, it turned into the same back and forth at some point. I’d spend hours counter arguing.
This was after the days of Alphadruid. I miss arguing with him, he was fun to argue with.
I try to find a counter point first. Then I’ll respond. Now a days, it’s just kind of “meh.” But if it’s something I am passionate about, I might throw in my 3 cents.
It depends. Sometimes posters are very bad at providing titles for their threads. But yes, I at least read the op’s initial post and try to reread it for comprehension.
If the thread already has 200 replies in two hours, I respond to op with my opinion, and probably peace out.
If it’s a ‘something terrible happened in a dungeon’ thread, I usually try to empathize and then peace out. GD is very rough on those people and they already feel like crap.
If it’s a topic I fell passionately about, I will stay in the thread, read every post, and get really involved.
with a chainsaw.
i like to nitpick and troll personally.
This was as far as I got before I scrolled through replies ![]()
something about consoles.
i think?
i thought this was a high elf thread
This is not reddit, so when you present a question, I do respond mostly to OP.
I do read the whole topic, sometimes I do respond to others and I try as much as possible to not respond others outside of the context of the topic to not drive the conversation offtopic.
There is always the risk of having parallel discussions within the same thread, where people end up picking up fight against each other.
IMHO, topics end up being too long instead of being short and well discussed… because people do PvP in the forums and can’t leave if they don’t feel like being the winners.
Is this a recent Allie and my privacy thread
Honestly? I garner the most from the title alone, then read about 75% of the OP’s post and skim the remaining 25%…
Then I’ll usually do an impulse response if I’m the first, second or third one there and await the dogpile of people I hardly know or the first individual to call me a troll.
Or if I’m late to the thread I’ll skim the several replies that were given, entertain myself witnessing the drama of the usual suspects, and then make a carefully thoughtout reply to the OP…
…and then await the dogpile of people I hardly know or the first individual to call me a troll.
