I remember being very confused about how to use Ursol’s Vortex back in Legion, but now that all specs can access it easily I should probably figure out how to make use of it. Although the 8yd radius is a pain.
In PvE, it can be used to prevent scattering of mobs in dungeons, but is that actually helpful for any of the dungeons in DF since no enemies flee and aggro isn’t a huge issue? Only things I can think of are cases where displacement interrupts, such as the jumping frogs in AV or the Whirlwind mobs in AA.
In PvP, it makes sense to use Ursol’s Vortex to confirm a kill on a priority target like Spear of Bastion, but it seems useless defensively if a melee is already focusing you due to the low range. (although I suppose Vortex then Dash away works since if they snared you, it would clear it)

It’s also like Spear in the sense it pulls you back to the center of the Vortex and then snares them by 60%.
For PvE, I usually drop it on myself while I’m getting ready to kite. Great for timing if you need to heal, or drop stacks for affixes like Necrotic, etc etc
I spend most of my runs in Coms with my tank so if they need to kite its generally my go too since i always have it talented vs incap or typhoon which depend on the week.
Frogs in azure vault and whelps on first ruby boss are where i get the most pug use out of it, either preventing the leap or grouping the whelps while tank moves to pick them up.
Sometime sanguine week if a mob is low and about to die ill drop it in the back to try and grip it out while the tank moves others for but thats risky since you need to be pretty exact with hit boxes.
In pvp anytime im getting melee trailed and i still need to heal (cant just wait it out in bearform while the team is dying) ill drop it then kite away from it so they get gripped. Also use it sometimes when someone is running from my own melee to help them secure kills.
