Both are something that can block you from progressing your character.
If anything, crests are more powerful because that’s guaranteed power. Full clearing a raid can and will give you a whole load of nothing.

But an instance lockout is a group thing which makes sense a crest cap doesn’t make a lot of sense.
I mean some cap does but it is far too low right now.
I mean I am 586 and I can’t go higher? That is pretty pathetic.
That would be because the season hasn’t started yet.
It’s a cap that goes up at a fixed rate, 90 crests per week. Come back 2 months into the season, and the cap will functionally be gone.
Is there a logical reason for the season to not have started yet?
Ostensibly so people don’t feel rushed to get through the content which takes about 3 hours to get through start to finish.
In reality, playing somewhat casually you could easily have your 25% xp buff maxed by now without trying very hard.
That said; the crest mechanic is a form of catchup that does work, since it lets alts and new people rapidly accrue upgrade materials later in the season at a pace not possible today.
Hahaha i laughed so hard.
Goord lord.
I mean, I don’t mind them delaying for the week after release… 2 full weeks plus early access is insane.
1 week is perfect but this second week makes zero logical sense.
I’m talking about character progression as a whole.
It’s always been gated at a weekly level at the top end and fundamentally that never needed to change until M+ came into existence.
Which caused the a design problem of how do you balance gearing on lockouts against something like M+? The previous answer was simply “you don’t so the only useful gear is at the start of the season and from your weekly cache”.
But really the crest weekly isn’t a whole different to the weekly lockouts except for the fact lockouts dont roll over like crests extend, so its really easy to gear characters up halfway through a season.
Well being stopped in your tracks on a Saturday night is not a good feeling.
I don’t know what else to say.
It took you until Saturday night to get crest capped?
You’re not really farming anything worth of value in the long run. The crests we currently have access to are going to be completely irrelevant as of next week.
Valorstones on the other hand will remain useful so if you wanna get ready for next week, go farm some wax so you can bypass the current cap.
I have an 80 DK and leveling an earthen warrior.
Yeah, I was crest capped on my main on Wednesday
Are we to be impressed?
I wasn’t crest capped but I am at the top of my classes my teachers say.
Comparing the 2 is nonsense. Try speeding up Vanilla to how fast retail plays, and your “mountain of content” will be gone in less than 1 week.
They don’t want to end up in a situation where flying through orbs is the best way to get crests. Especially later on when you can take lower crests and turn them into higher crests.
Cause Blizzard is more interested in selling a service, rather than a good game to play.
Because people get sad when other people with more time can use that time to progress and anything that adds playtime is a “forced” chore.
Casuals always ruin every game.
It’s quite sad actually.
